Brad

] This collection of web pages documents Brad's activity on
] the system and the people who's lives he effected, from
] the first day he logged on MemeStreams to the day he
] passed on.

I had just finished the Year in Graphs when we heard of Brad's overdose. The idea of putting this together came to me immediately.. However, it took me about a week to get my shit together enough to actually do it.

I'm not sure what to say about it. I wasn't sure what to write on the intro/index page either. I spent a good afternoon of staring at a blank copy of VIM trying to come up with something. Then it dawned on me that the community could speak for itself, so I just started cut and pasting whatever made sense. It felt like that was a copout at the time, and it still does now..

However, I still can't think of anything to say about the matter. I can think of a few things I want to scream.. Really fucking loudly.. All of them at Brad.

For now, I'll say I miss him.

... and stay away from Heroin.

In Memoriam: Brad Blines, aka CrankyMessiah
by Elonka at 6:50 pm EST, Jan 21, 2004

At the too-young age of 35, a well-known member of Memestreams, Brad Blines, died of a heroin overdose on January 8th, 2004. This page documents Brad's activity in our virtual community, and shows a fraction of the people whose lives he touched.

R.I.P.

I am Brad's father. It has been both heartwarming and heartbreaking to read how you all felt about my son. Thank you all for taking the time to remember him.

I want to clarify one thing. It was believed early on that Brad died of a heroin overdose. However the official report states that Brad died of a cocaine overdose.

Not that it makes all that much difference what he overdosed from, but we all had some little understanding of how it might have been heroin. I must say that I am more thoroughly confused since it turned out to be cocaine. I do not remember any time that Brad ever told me that he liked cocaine.

Well, I must go. Please know that our family appreciates you all so very much. We loved him and still love him, and miss him more than my feeble vocabulary will ever be able to communicate.

Coram Deo!
Michael

Brad's Graphs
by Decius at 1:36 pm EST, Jan 29, 2004

Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us about Brad. Rattle (Nick Levay) is one of the people who maintains this site with me. He put together a collection of graphs which show every week that Brad was on our site, his connections to the rest of the people on the site through our reputation system, and the threads he posted to that week. You might find it interesting. It is linked here:
