I'm thinking we ALL need to do this
by skullaria at 6:13 pm EDT, May 25, 2007

I understand that Sonic wall is wrongly blocking www.memestreams.com
as a HACKER site.

We are not bad dirty evil pesky hackers spreading chaos and cyber warfare.

We all need to go to the link above, and request that rating be changed.

I will seek others that I know to do this from off the site.

There was at least one other site that successfully campaigned against wrongly applied filters. With enough volume of requests, they backed off.

Dear Customer,

You submitted the following rating request to SonicWALL CFS Support:
Rate memestreams.net as "31.Web Communications" at 2007-05-26 00:25:00.393

The request has been reviewed and rated as:
"31.Web Communications" at 2007-05-28 03:14:05.533

You should see this rating change reflected within 1 to 3 business days.

Thank you for your request,
SonicWALL CFS Support

It doesn't say anything about removing MemeStreams for the Hacking/Proxy Avoidance Category. Does anyone on MemeStreams have a Sonicwall?

The problem wasn't memestreams.com - it was just memestreams.net. As I understand it.

But, I and several friends got emails this morning that the site HAD been rerated to web communications.

The best way to test it would be to check at that earlier link - just put in memestreams.net & see what it says.

The way I understand it - from a friend that has it - is that if you subscribe to the filtering service, then you can check the categories that you want to filter out - and the admin CAN locally add specific websites to filter - that is independant of their subscription service.

The link I posted taps into what their subscription - you know- their db of sites to be filtered.

I hope that makes sense - hopefully problem is solved. Man, I've had so little sleep last 3 days that I don't know if I could add 2+2 right now. :)

I also ran the site test for memestreams.net against Watchguard/Surfcontrol's database and it returns:

memestreams.net is in our list and categorized as Usenet News

I think it is ok now, I'm seeing web communications and usenet news on the sonic site - neither should be filtered for most people.

I got a bit scared, lol, that they'd check the site and see all the exploit news we had at the top 1-2 days ago and not scroll down and not rerate the site based on a quick glance.
