Ward Three Morality - or David Brooks is the dumbest SOB at the NYT because he doesn't have Bill Kristol to kick around anymore

The essence of the problem is this: Rich people used to set their own norms. For example, if one rich person wanted to use the company helicopter to aerate the ponds on his properties, and the other rich people on his board of directors thought this a sensible thing to do, then he could go ahead and do it without any serious repercussions.

Really David? That's what you think the problem is? How about this. When people do stupid shit like that on their own dime, they're considered eccentric. When they do it on MY DIME, I'm going to get pissed off about it. You would think this guy would be smart enough to make such a simple connection, but no, and that's why he's now the dumbest SOB at the NYT.

Whoa, you totally missed his point. The article was both tongue-in-cheek and allegorical. Companies (and, by extension, their chairmen and VPs) have always been beholden to the shareholders and society. They are just now realizing it. He's totally satirizing their professed ignorance that they should be pillars -- not pillagers -- of the community.

Gosh, if you are this pissed off, you are definitely going to hate the literal article written on the same subject. :-)

Having watched David Brooks on Sunday mornings any number of times, is he poking fun at both sides of the equation? Yes. But frankly, he missed the boat on this one. Going after the people who are rightfully angry at things like Thain and office redecoration done on our dime is asinine. If they are not taking money and want to do something like that, fine, it's their money.

Now, going to the second article, yes, living in New York is expensive, always has been. Then again, 100k for the mortgage and a matching 100k for the co-op board? How do I get the co-op board position?
