Turns out it was fake, that is, if you can trust the Sun:

A DIAMOND necklace which Eminem gave to a fan and said was worth £275,000 has been exposed as a FAKE.

The rapper plucked Sian Fox, 19, from a crowd of 65,000 at a sell-out gig in Milton Keynes and handed it over.

Sian then had to be rescued by the star’s bouncers so she was not mugged.

But the necklace and cross was later valued at just £50 by jewellery expert Dave Baddeley.

He said: “The chain is nickel and would probably stain your clothes if you wore it too much.”

The stunt was supposed to prove that Eminem was not obsessed with money.

Airline worker Sian, from Reading, said: “He said was going to give it to the prettiest girl to prove that he wasn’t materialistic.

“He scanned the crowd and then went down on his knee, took off the necklace and handed it to me.

“The whole thing has backfired because he hasn’t told the truth.”
But she added: “I will still treasure it.”

Thank you!

It sounded fucking tacky as all hell anyway... "....like a huge diamond-encrusted crucifix".

HELL YEA! 'cuz donating half a million dollars to charity where it might do some real good isn't "cool". Gotta make a publicity stunt out of it and give a necklace to a random fan - who will likely end up hawking it anyways and pocketing the cash (wouldn't you?).

Whats next? Confetti cannons filled with $10's and $20's at his concerts??

But you see, that's what I love about him... he's flying in the face of conventional wisdom. Everything he does pisses off somebody. And I like that. That's how he got started in this business in the first place. His lyrics pissed people off, and he became infamous, and now he's more widely accepted. We need more artists and entertainers that piss people off, rather than those who fake themselves just to make people happy. "Be true to yourself"... Eminem certainly does that.

Perhaps. But I still think he's skin deep. Sure - controversy sells records. Madonna will be the first to tell you that and she's been at it for 20 years. I guess some people are entertained by this guys antics (shrug), but ANYONE can go out and just piss people off. Its not that tough - Andrew Dice Clay? Where is he these days? The whole bit of "piss off everyone and take no prisoners" wears thin after a while. And longevity in the rap/hip-hop world is pretty much unheard of - your big for a few years tops and then forgotten. so strike while the irons hot eminem - while some people are still amused.
