as funny/painful/accurate as this is, what strikes me most is the sophistication some of these kids present in their speech. I don't think i'd have used the phrase "corporate espionage" when i was 11, and i was pretty well read. it's a little scary... how long til our 8 year olds have schedules as packed as their parents, digitally negotiating dinner time via wireless network access?

You're right and I thought that some of their criticisms show a lot of sophistication as well. They're automatically subsuming a level of critical thinking I would not have expected - realizing and pointing out that the umbrellas are arbitrarily chosen - that they don't actually do anything umbrellalike for instance. And the other thing is just that their baseline expectations are much higher. The ET criticism was the funniest! I remember hating that effing pit!!!!

I thought this was quite amusing when I read it, too.
