Nashville producer and artist Jeremy Dickens remains on the vanguard of electronica in a city known for twang.

MemeStreams user logickal has a new EP out. I'm pulling it down from iTunes right now. If you're into ambient industrial music his stuff is definately worth a listen. You can catch some samples of his work on his podcast, now in it's 27th episode.

Ex-Door Lighting Their Ire - Los Angeles Times
Topic: Music 2:26 pm EDT, Oct  5, 2005

"People lost their virginity to this music, got high for the first time to this music," Densmore said. "I've had people say kids died in Vietnam listening to this music, other people say they know someone who didn't commit suicide because of this music…. On stage, when we played these songs, they felt mysterious and magic. That's not for rent."

I always liked the Doors. Seemed like real music. I also recall the experience of seeing Led Zeppelin in an ad for Cadillacs to be a rather jarring contrast. My image of the Cadillac is refined, comfortable, and boring. Unless its an Escalade, which is another matter entirely, but neither evokes 70s rock music for me. W1ld informed me that I'm not the target market for this and so I'm just not going to get it. Its people in their 60's who were rock'n out to Zeppelin in their 20s who might pay attention to the ad because of the music. In any event, I get why Densmore doesn't want them using Doors music, and I'm glad.

Memphis Minnie: Queen of the Blues
Topic: Music 6:18 pm EDT, Sep 11, 2005

Found via Cafe LA; album review by Rhapsody:

This extensive collection of songs featuring the pioneering female guitarist and blues singer is highlighted by Memphis Minnie's distinctive guitar style and contralto vocals. Minnie sings about committing murder with enough conviction to make you wonder if she wasn't the biggest, baddest bad ass in Chicago in the 1940s.

This is amazing stuff. Check out "When The Levee Breaks" (iTMS URL, RealAudio clip).

I've been wondering when this song was going to pop up in the discouse. Of course, this was famously covered by Led Zeppelin as the last song on their IVth album. It was also on A Perfect Circle's recent compilation of anti-war covers, but I prefer the earlier two renditions personally.

Britney to Rent, Lease or Buy

What's a music-download fan to do -- actually pay for music?

If it comes to that, they'll find that a lot has changed in the online music business.

These rental-music outfits are highly conducive to exploring and discovering new music. They're ideal if your taste leans toward what one Internet wag calls Disposable Contemporary.
