CNN.com - Powell not expected to serve if Bush re-elected - Aug. 4, 2003
Topic: Current Events 10:22 pm EDT, Aug  5, 2003

] The White House expects that President Bush would have to
] assemble a new foreign policy team, including a secretary
] of state, if he wins a second term, administration
] officials said Monday.

This is a crazy mess of competing spin, but the concensus is that Powell will not be a part of the second term. A shame. I think he is presently my favorite republican.

Does the Public Really Believe? (washingtonpost.com)
Topic: Current Events 10:06 am EDT, May 26, 2003

] Both the war and the tax cuts began as policy decisions.
] The justifications for the policies were developed -- and
] changed as often as necessary -- to accommodate the
] policies.
]
] And a lot of people have gone blithely along.
]
] I wonder if they go along out of belief, out of deference
] to their leaders or out of partisan loyalty.

This is a well written question. Nice and open so that you can insert the theory of your preference. I want to add that just because they are obviously lying doesn't mean your conspiracy theories are correct.

canada.com | 'Salam Pax' plays Americans for fools in Iraq
Topic: Current Events 7:59 pm EDT, May 14, 2003

] 'Salam Pax" is rising as one of the media stars in
] postwar Iraq. He began blogging from Baghdad well before
] the war, and has come back sporadically since. (He calls
] his blog "Where is Raed?") He is the darling of fellow
] bloggers in the West, who light up with links whenever he
] appears on the Web. He has been written about in the New
] Yorker magazine and elsewhere, and his jottings copied
] into the Guardian in the Britain. Not bad for a person
] whose very existence has been skeptically queried. And
] who does a superb job of covering his traces, creating
] fresh firewalls around himself in the very moments when
] he appears to be giving his identity away.

Here is another take on Salam Pax..

Most likely the sons and daughters of the same people that want the confederate battle emblem put back on the Georgia Flag.

] A year after holding that school's first racially
] integrated prom, Taylor County High School in rural
] Georgia has returned to its segregationist ways and will
] be holding two proms again- one for white students and

Nice job kids! You've done a fine job of perpetuating the stereotype that all southerners are racist rednecks.

RE: ABCNEWS.com : Officials: 9/11 Was Main Reason for War
Topic: Current Events 2:46 pm EDT, Apr 30, 2003

] Yeah, I just think the blowback will be pretty bad. Any
] rumblings on Stratfor about how we intend on dealing with
] that?

Well for one, several people predicted that we would pull our troops out of Saudi Arabia, and we have... This is significant as SA is mecca and there are those that oppose our presence there for purely religious reasons. Also, the UK has been making noises about readdressing the Israel/Palestinian issue. They've actually admitted some western responsbility for the way things are, and have made rumblings about getting involved... You might watch developments vis-a-vis the parlimentary elections in Palestine for some information... (None of this is from stratfor... Their post war analysis was posted to Interesting People, but its mostly about pressures from Syria and Iran...)

ABCNEWS.com : Officials: 9/11 Was Main Reason for War

] The Bush administration wanted to make a statement about
] its determination to fight terrorism. And officials
] acknowledge that Saddam had all the requirements to make
] him, from their standpoint, the perfect target.

The administration comes clean about its motives. Stratfor has been mostly dead on, if this story is correct. They apparently stop short of supporting the neo-conservatives, although in what way its not exactly clear.
