A VC: Bubble 2.0
Topic: Miscellaneous 12:45 pm EST, Mar 30, 2005

] You went to a great party, had too good of a time, woke
] up with a terrible hangover, and promised yourself you
] wouldn't do that again.
]
] Then the people who threw the party invite you to the
] next one.
]
] What do you do? Go, of course.
]
] I wonder if that's what's happening with all the activity
] in and around Web 2.0 right now.

Beware the Web 2.0 Bubble | Threadwatch.org
Topic: Miscellaneous 12:44 pm EST, Mar 30, 2005

] There's no doubt in my mind we're in a bubble right now,
] though during the last one i was far to busy selling
] expensive ads to 20-something CEO's with far more money
] than sense to take much notice of the first from this
] perspective, all i hope from this one, is that we get
] some great innovations out of it. If it has to burst,
] like all bubbles eventually do, let's hope it's not quite
] as messy and that we're left with something valuable at
] the end.

World's largest known prime number found
Topic: Miscellaneous 3:24 pm EST, Mar 29, 2005

] The number, rendered in exponential shorthand, is
] 2^(25,964,951)-1. It has 7,816,230 digits, and if printed in
] its entirety, would fill 235 newspaper pages.
]
] In addition, it falls in a rare category of primes known
] as Mersenne primes, which can be written as 2n-1 where n
] is also prime.
]
] The first few Mersenne primes are easily verifiable --
] inserting 2, 3 and 5 for n produces 3, 7 and 31, all
] prime -- but the math quickly becomes overwhelming for
] larger values.

The Big Picture: Is There an Upside to Downloading?
Topic: Miscellaneous 10:35 am EST, Mar 29, 2005

] The Grokster case gets heard today in the Supreme Court.
] One of the tactics the music industry has used is to
] throw down the plight of the starving working musician.
] It plays on the emotions, personalizes the impact of
] piracy, replacing the corporate victim with reconizable
] face.
]
] Except, of course, that its all a lie. Consider this
] Congressional testimony:

Nice testimony clip. I am glad this kind of thing has been said, spelled out, in such unambiguous language in a formal (Congressional) setting. It is a pity that the Congress probably isn't influenced by it, but this is the kind of thing to point to to the non-tech people to counter the starving artist concern.

I mean, that and iTunes. It should be pretty obvious to anyone that getting a record on iTunes for cheap, with a good profit sharing, can be a very viable alternative to whatever the RIAA claims to offer.
