How Eli Lilly Taps Into The Cloud - Plug Into The Cloud - InformationWeek
Topic: Miscellaneous 3:15 pm EST, Jan  7, 2009

Eli Lilly is using on-demand servers and storage from Amazon to support its pharmaceuticals research. Dave Powers, an IT pro with Eli Lilly who is helping to spearhead that effort, says the speed of implementation, flexibility, and collaborative capabilities of cloud services are "absolutely disruptive" in how the company thinks about and deploys IT resources.

[#SDK-259] support FLV embedding - Adobe Bug System

Comment from External User:

Following is a related post by another developer seeking this functionality:

Regarding priority, I realize that likely there are scant few use cases for embedding FLV/H.264 vs loading dynamically at runtime. With the Flash IDE, embedding video is a longstanding feature and the use cases do exist.

Adobe sucks, and Flex is a piece of shit. I for one welcome our new Microsoft Silverlight web overlords.

Op-Ed Contributor - A Pardon to Remember - NYTimes.com

WHEN President Bill Clinton pardoned a billionaire fugitive from justice on his last day in office, even usually loyal Democrats were dismayed. Representative Henry Waxman of California called it “bad precedent” and “an end run around the judicial process.” He said it appeared to set a double standard for the wealthy and powerful.

This is pretty troubling.

We conducted a soft survey at last week's Atlanta Angel Lounge meeting. As you review the results, you should keep in mind that this crisis is new and unsettled. In fact, since our last meeting the Dow Jones Industrial average dropped over 1,400 points. So this data, although only a week old, may be outdated.

Here is what we learned from a gathering of 25 Atlanta angel investors:

* The professional angels with a sizable wealth base said, 'it will be business as usual.'
* There was agreement that with AAA rated companies like GE paying 10% with warrants for long-term money, valuations for early stage companies will be lower. The risk/return ratio is shifting with the market.
* Many angels are sitting on the sidelines waiting to see what their liquidity will be when the markets get back to some rhythm, good or bad.
* Deals will be more closely scrutinized and therefore more time will be needed to raise money.

TV shows taking time to grow - Variety
Topic: Miscellaneous 1:23 am EDT, Oct  4, 2008

While "True Blood" bowed to just 1.4 million total viewers for its initial run, the overall audience tally had grown to 5.4 million once several weeks' data measuring other viewing options had trickled in. HBO renewed the show for a second season.

As audiences increasingly watch original series through encore runs, DVRs and video-on-demand, the lesson is to not judge a show by its overnight numbers. Wait at least a week or two.

It's a logic proliferating among cable networks on the basic and premium side of the spectrum. Perceptions, they say, aren't in sync with reality.
