Why all the screaming at Dean?
Topic: Politics and Law 9:40 am EDT, Jun 11, 2005

"Dean, who noted he is a white Christian, infuriated members of both parties by merely stating an undeniable truth. A recent CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll found 82 percent of Republicans identify themselves as white Christians, while 57 percent of Democrats said the same."
....
..."The party is more comfortable with passive figures like John Kerry, whose presidential candidacy flamed out largely because of his inability to deliver straightforward answers and opinions.

Dean has no such inhibitions. He energizes masses of young people and disenfranchised Democrats through his direct - though sometimes over-the-top - comments. Dean says what he believes and doesn't back down - two traits Kerry has yet to learn.

Dean is also among few Democrats who can criticize Bush's decision to go to war without being disingenuous. That's because most Democrats - including Kerry and New York Sen. Hillary Clinton - supported Bush's decision at the time and are guilty of the same shortsightedness they conveniently blame Republicans for having.

Dean is an electric figure who could be one of the party's stars - if they would let him. Instead, the Democrats remain in a state of nirvana, lacking both leadership and direction."

Kerry's Yale Grades Similar to Bush's
Topic: Politics and Law 9:17 am EDT, Jun  8, 2005

Sen. John F. Kerry's grade average at Yale University was virtually identical to President Bush's record there, despite repeated portrayals of Kerry as the more intellectual candidate during the 2004 presidential campaign.

Kerry had a cumulative average of 76 and got four Ds his freshman year — in geology, two history courses and political science, The Boston Globe reported Tuesday.

"I always told my dad that D stood for distinction," Kerry said in a written response to reporters' questions.

LOL! I found this story pretty amusing. Though it immediately makes me wonder: Why now? Why didn't this come out during the campaign?

I thought the same thing. Which do you want? bozo 1 or bozo 2??

FOXNews.com - Politics - DeLay Calls Justice Kennedy 'Outrageous'
Topic: Politics and Law 10:58 pm EDT, Apr 21, 2005

] "We've got Justice Kennedy writing decisions based upon
] international law, not the Constitution of the United
] States. That's just outrageous, and not only that, he
] said in session that he does his own research on the
] Internet. That is just incredibly outrageous,"
DeLay said
] in the interview.

Tom Delay death spiral watch. This is Fox news. Fox news closed with a quote from a Democrat saying that they need to get Delay out of the public sphere for a little while and let him cool off. Fox news.

How dare judges attempt to research questions that are presented to them! Delay's position is that judges shouldn't be interested in the truth, per say. They shouldn't seek out objective perspectives on matters they need to consider. Rather they should be beholden to the power and money that drives the "democratic" government.

Delay wants to use the "good behavior" text in Article III Section I to bring all federal judges under fine grained political control.

He seems to be operating under the perception that the American people don't realize that the legislature is corrupt, or that politicians are bought and sold, or that people think that judges ought to live in a bubble. He is wrong on all counts, and he is starting to sound like a fool.

[ Starting? -k]

A little slow on that call, he's sounded like an idiot for a solid ten years.

Congress Condemns Schiavo to Undeath!
Topic: Politics and Law 10:59 am EST, Mar 21, 2005

I watched the debate. I could not believe how some members of congress struggled with the word AUTONOMOUS. Half looked like they were reading something - and couldn't read.

It was so very political. They were so transparent. Our country is clearly in trouble.

The State | 03/09/2005 | Bankruptcy bill another blow to safety net
Topic: Politics and Law 2:10 am EST, Mar 15, 2005

] The bill would make it much harder for families in
] distress to write off their debts and make a fresh start.
] Instead, many debtors would find themselves on an endless
] treadmill of payments.
]
] The credit card companies say this is needed because
] people have been abusing the bankruptcy law, borrowing
] irresponsibly and walking away from debts. The facts say
] otherwise.
]
] A vast majority of personal bankruptcies in the United
] States are the result of severe misfortune.
One recent
] study found that more than half of bankruptcies are the
] result of medical emergencies. The rest are
] overwhelmingly the result either of job loss or of
] divorce.

Paul Krugman was on the daily show railing about this bankruptcy bill, which we feels has not received adequate press coverage.

I really think there has almost been an intentional HUSH of the coverage of this bill!
