THE UNICORN ORGY
Topic: Arts 10:29 pm EST, Feb 21, 2006

This sculpture group was inspired by a dream. In LOLA, I witnessed a secret reunion of long-separated unicorns--transparent ghostly unicorns--that turned into a wild party, and then... a unicorn orgy!

HAHA!

Levitated
Topic: Arts 2:10 pm EST, Nov 26, 2005

Very cool generative, fractal, rule-based and algorythmic web art.

[ His earlier (?) work is also available at complexification.net, as well as some prints you can purchase. Personally, I really wish he offered a print of "substrate". I think it's wonderful to look at. -k]

Original Star Wars Origami designs created by Chris Alexander
Topic: Arts 4:29 pm EST, Nov 17, 2005

The following pages depict
many things from the Star Wars universe re-created from a simple piece of
paper. On each page you will find a picture of a completed figure, a description
of its place in the Star Wars universe, and a short anecdote about my efforts
to re-create it. If the figure is one from my book, you will also see the
final illustration from the instructions for comparison. These designs were
all created for the Star Wars Origami book. I'm still trying to get it published.
If you are a book agent, publisher, or can help me get the book published,
I would be interested in hearing from you.
I hope you will enjoy
my work and become inspired to explore this art form.

3D sculpture depicts 'shadow' of a 4D object
Topic: Arts 11:53 am EDT, Oct 21, 2005

Artistic works traditionally carry significance beyond their physical beauty, but a new sculpture in the McAllister Building headquarters of the Penn State Department of Mathematics may carry that tradition to its limits.

Add to list of stuff to see before I croak.

Apple - Aperture
Topic: Arts 10:39 am EDT, Oct 20, 2005

Designed from the ground up for professional photographers, Aperture provides everything you need for after the shoot, delivering the first all-in-one post-production tool for photographers.

Featuring a RAW-focused workflow, Aperture makes RAW as easy as JPEG, letting you import, edit, catalog, organize, retouch, publish, and archive your images more effectively and efficiently than ever before. From capture to output, you work directly with your RAW files, never having to first convert them into another format before viewing, adjusting, organizing, or printing them.

Check out the tour. It looks like photoshop might finally have some competition in the photo processing area. The interface looks really neat. It might be a little on the pricey side for what it does though, probably just so they can market it as "professional" software. Still neat looking though.

I/O Brush
Topic: Arts 9:04 pm EDT, Oct  9, 2005

I/O Brush is a new drawing tool to explore colors, textures, and movements found in everyday materials by "picking up" and drawing with them. I/O Brush looks like a regular physical paintbrush but has a small video camera with lights and touch sensors embedded inside. Outside of the drawing canvas, the brush can pick up color, texture, and movement of a brushed surface. On the canvas, artists can draw with the special "ink" they just picked up from their immediate environment.

Interesting

Topic: Arts 1:08 pm EDT, Sep 23, 2005

Extreme Pumpkins.com - Pumpkin carving at its wildest! At what point did the carving of pumpkins turn into a "cute" event? When did boys stop carving pumpkins and moms start? Where did we lose touch with one of the years coolest events?Today we will seize back this ritual. Today is the day we throw away those safe, cute carving tools. Today. We will buy a big, ugly, pumpkin so large one man cannot lift or move it. Today. We will carve that sumbitch into something ugly and plop it on the front porch. October 31st we will light it brightly enough to give visiting children suntans.Pumpkin carving is reborn.Welcome to ExtremePumpkins.com where strange pumpkins, pumpkin patterns, and alternative pumpkin carving techniques are developed and demonstrated for you. Pumpkin carving will never be the same.

These are pretty cool.

CHIPWORKS | Silicon Art Gallery
Topic: Arts 7:24 pm EDT, Sep 20, 2005

Looking inside, Chipworks has found creative expressions on many of the chips
that we have examined. Our combined facilities house six (6) optical microscopes
that provide us with the magnification required to do our analysis work, as
well as to discover the hidden art on some chips.

Images are captured by Chipworks' own proprietary state-of-the-art
software, Design Analysis Workstation
(DAW) and are uncovered during magnification of the chip. Magnification
based on the available space where the art is placed can vary anywhere
from 200 to 500 times the actual size.
We think that these masterpieces deserve a wider audience. Have
a look at what we've found!
