Couple sentenced for far-fetched fraud |

The couple that preyed together won't stay together. They are going to separate federal prisons. Brent Eric Finley -- who along with his wife scammed family, friends and neighbors out of hundreds of thousands of dollars with a far-fetched scheme of using the CIA and some of its technology to head off serious medical problems -- has been sentenced in federal court to four years and three months in prison. Finley, 38, of Rayville must report to prison by Feb. 4. ... Over a period of six years, the Finleys persuaded 22 people to pay them a total of $989,898, prosecutors said. Many of the victims, who ranged in age from young adults to the elderly, depleted savings, insurance policies, and pension funds. Stacey Finley, 34, persuaded her targets -- described by federal prosecutors as "solid, middle-class, educated citizens" -- that she was a CIA agent and could use her agency contacts to have medical scans conducted by satellite. Finley said the scans would reveal hidden medical problems, prosecutors said, and that CIA agents would then enter their homes and administer secret medications while they slept.

Is it an effort to find something in common? Is it because some people don't know any better, and if it is, should they not be hired because of it? At what point does the vernacular and/or slang that some business people use make them less valuable as employees? Read on to find out what were the most popular responses. Besides "Aks" and "Wiff," what other vernacular do you hear business people use? Click here to respond. Read past comments from DiversityInc readers or other Ask the White Guy articles.

A Shropshire pensioner trying to withdraw money from her savings account was refused - because she was 'dead'. Mary Welsby's Isa account had been closed by Abbey and the 3,000 in it paid out, reports the Daily Mail. Despite flashing photo ID, Mrs Welsby was informed that she was still officially deceased and could not draw out any cash. The 77-year-old said: "I know I'm quite long in the tooth now but I'm certainly not dead. "The young lady serving me began typing away on her computer but all of a sudden looked puzzled and told me that according to their records, I was dead. ... Eventually, after the bank investigated further, it discovered that a woman with a name similar to hers and around the same age had died. By mistake, Mrs Welsby's account had been closed and the money paid out to the dead woman's family.

“The average full-time worker doesn’t even start doing real work until 11:00 a.m.,” he writes, “and begins to wind down around 3:30 p.m.” The Microsoft survey pointed to worthless meetings. What appears to be wasted time is really jell time.

If all goes as planned, the convenience store chain plans to refit 11 stores across the U.S. -- Richmond is an unlikely choice -- to resemble the front of the Kwik-E-Mart, the convenience store that Homer and other characters frequent in the classic cartoon TV series.
