John Kerry's real tech agenda | Perspectives | CNET News.com

] Intel Executive Vice President Leslie Vadasz told the
] committee that Hollings' idea was a brain-dead approach
] that ignored Silicon Valley's concerns in favor of those
] raised by Hollywood lobbyists.
]
] Kerry's advice? "We might need to legislate," he said,
] ignoring Vadasz's objections.

I think I've mentioned before that Kerry's website sort of flirted with the copyright maximalists. Well, turns out he supported the Fritz Chip. He also seems to like Key Escrow. Now I do think tech issues are a side item in this election. I'm not voting on them. Nor do I think Bush's stances are any better. But if Kerry wins, don't expect any changes in this regard.

I get the impression with Kerry, though, if all us good techs flooded him with email and the EFF got on his case, he'd change his tune. ;)

What is this recommending to me? Why can't you fuckers pay for CDs and movies? What's the problem? Has the Dotcom crash left you counting change?

[ I definitely think that while removing Bush serves the greater good, we're still gonna have to keep a close eye on what kerry is up to, and be willing to address concerns with our reps on lots of things. I guess i'm sort of in baby-steps mode... one hurdle at a time, but it probably makes sense to start keeping a list of potential concerns with a K/E administration. -k]

um, this is the understatement of the year. Kerry will only win because he's the lesser of two evils. His record is abysmal, the Dem Party shows absolute zilch in terms of planning and leadership ability to get us out of this mess, and remember that he's just got his hand in all the pocket's that W doesn't. This election is NOT a stepping stone to progressive change in this country. It'll be more of the same bullshit in 4 years.

[ Hyperbole aside, I agree that the ABB mentality overshadows the need for some serious restructuring within the party. There's a lot of things that aren't being said because no one wants to jeopardize the win in november. I really do expect a lot of that to shake out regardless of who wins. Whether anything comes of it, i'm not so sure. I'm not so naive as to think Dean and the Blogs have revolutionized politics, but i feel like some progressive steps were taken, even if they were baby steps. I think the new funding and propaganda mechanisms are promising and i'm pretty happy with the increased availability of viewpoints and discussion on the web.

Anyway, the lesser of two evils is still less evil, and it's still a positive motion, even if it doesn't satisfy the idealist side of me. -k]
