Blu-ray Disc Association Launches

They have some heavy hitters from both the computer and consumer electronics industries on board. There's a war brewing between
this and HD-DVD; blu-ray is better technology hands down. Maybe Sony's starting to learn its lesson from Betamax.

This isn't Sony's battle. This really is more Philips vs NEC. I believe the last such fight (DVD-R vs +R?) was ruled a tie; burners ended support both. That's not going to work with HD-DVD vs Blu-Ray. Sony is just a powerful ally for Philips, because of the PS3... while PS3 sales won't be enough to establish the whole platform, and it would upset Sony a bit not to have the PS3 play the defacto movie standard, that's not the core.
