Early voting in Rome, GA - A Democrat's perspective
by skullaria at 2:53 pm EDT, Oct 27, 2004

Encouraged that Republicans are more likely to vote at lunch time, this democrat took herself down to the courthouse right before lunch to vote. It was rather unorganized. There were only 2 poll workers that I saw throughout the process. There were 4 voting machines going that I saw, but I think there may have been 4 more in another room as well since they had been calling voters back 8 at a time.

When I first walked in, I thought I was passing a courtroom of people waiting for court, but no, it was a courtroom of people waiting to vote. I quickly recognized several people from various democratic meetings and I saw a few others come in as I was waiting, so I would guess from limited observation
that the majority of early voters were democrats.

I filled out the required paperwork, and showed my ID. After an hour's wait, I was given my smart card and the busy poll worker pointed at the polling room. I saw an empty machine and went in. The voting process was not observed at all.

When I finished I left my smart card on a table. I could have easily walked out with it.
