I was just quoting an entry. But I don't find it very surprising. I suspect Americans do use more voice mobile service than anywhere else (although India would be my next guess).

And that's just it. Europe and Japan usage behavior have consistently been 5-10 years ahead. Yes, they have more advanced networks, and their phones are much better.

But wireless voice does not need a 3G network. The first digital networks got that part done. 3G is great for the phone as a lifestyle device, a portable computer, etc. We don't need more bandwidth for voice, we need cheap service plans and the society for calling.

And we have them. I hear reports that Japanese social norms have already moved to not talking on trains. It is all text (and richer media) messaging. That's not true around here, text messaging is still fairly foreign.
