An Atlanta ordinance seemingly targeted to keep young women off strip-club stages also prohibits under-21 musicians from playing gigs at many of the city's music venues. It would, that is, if the measure were uniformly enforced.

That's retarded. The age of majority should be either 18 or 21. Fucking pick one. This graduated notion of adulthood is silly.

18 year olds should be able to go to night clubs.

I'm not too picky about the 18 vs 21 thing, but I still think this ban is dumb.

When Atlanta passed the 21+ bar law in 2001/2002, kids didn't stop going to bars and nightclubs. Instead they went to Dekalb and Cobb counties, which still allow 18 year olds to party, and spent money there on cover, food, booze, date rape drugs, cheap condoms, and RU486 pills. Most of that money was taxed, and went into that municipalities pocket.

With Atlanta approaching a 9 digit budget defect, you'd think they would take all the tax revenue they can. But instead, 18-20 yo workers are going to be forced outside the city to make their wage. Once out there, they will spend their money there and maybe even setup roots there.

This law is meant to hamper child prostitution. I don't see how eliminating jobs from of-age people protects children.
