Why you've heard of Jessica Lynch, not Zan Hornbuckle
by flynn23 at 11:22 am EST, Nov 11, 2003

] Capt. Hornbuckle's name has never appeared in a newspaper
] or on television. He has received no book deals, no movie
] offers, no trips to Disneyland. In September, when he
] went to see his parents in Tifton, Ga., his mother called
] the local Holiday Inn and asked the manager to put her
] son's name -- he goes by Zan -- on the hotel marquee.
] That has been his most public recognition so far.

I thought I was going to be sick when the ads for the TV movie of Jessica Lynch were airing last week. But this makes me more sick.

we of the biltmore house were just discussing this last night... the commoditization of jessica lynch, using her as a diversion from the sacrifices being made, still, by thousands of our countrymen, serving, captured, dead or wounded. I'm not saying i don't want to honor her, she fought in a war i wouldn't have, and with honor, as far as can be told, but for fucks sake, could americans have *less* perspective?

sick is what it is. i think she feels a bit of this herself, from what i'm reading. one can hope.
