Some N.J. doctors planning work stoppage
Topic: Local Information 7:58 am EST, Jan 17, 2003

] New Jersey doctors are planning a partial work stoppage
] next month to protest soaring malpractice premiums many
] say they can no longer afford.
]
] The doctors plan to stop seeing patients for routine
] checkups, elective surgery and nonessential tests and
] services as of February 3, said Dr. Alan Zaccaria, who is
] organizing the effort in Monmouth and Ocean counties.

It's almost as if every day, I find a new reason to be THRILLED that I left New Jersey.

] A 54-year-old truck driver from Shelton, Wash., was
] killed Monday afternoon when a load of plywood slid off a

] E. Shear State Pier, police said.

Wow. I have to start watching the state pier with my binoculars. Apparently it's a very happening place.

] "A 43-year-old pilot boat crewman was killed Wednesday
] after he fell into the Thames River, apparently while
] preparing for an early morning boat run from the State
] Pier."

Another sad river/boat thing that happened directly across the river from my house, in full view from my kitchen window.

Finally, a review for 'Olio'!!!!!!!!!!
Topic: Local Information 9:29 am EST, Dec 19, 2002

] Housed in a trailer-shaped structure that was formerly a
] tavern, Olio is nestled next to a bowling alley and the
] ghost town that was once an auto kingdom.

Finally! A review for this restaurant! It's right near my house, by the bowling alley we bowl at, and every time we drive past this place, there's a billion people there. But I won't eat anywhere until I hear that it's good. Apparently this place is good. I'm there.

Finally, a review for 'Olio'!!!!!!!!!!

] "The city signed a redeveloper agreement with Asbury
] Partners in October for the first phase of the
] development of 3,000 condominium units and a rejuvenated
] retail and entertainment sector of shops, restaurants,
] night clubs and a new hotel."

I worked for Asbury Partners right before I moved to CT. I miss my boardwalk office and ocean view. I love Asbury Park, I've always seen the potential it has, and I truly believe that it will come back. I just hope nobody screws it up.

Highway to Hell
Topic: Local Information 8:26 am EST, Dec  9, 2002

] "Whatever your holiday travel travails were Thanksgiving
] weekend, it could have been worse: You could have been on
] Sally Weisbrot's bus the night of Nov. 30.
]
] Eager to get home after spending the holiday with her
] sister in Mount Laurel, Weisbrot, a 30-year-old New
] Yorker, watched from her second-row seat with mounting
] dismay as the Greyhound driver, trying to find a
] less-congested route north, made one bad move after
] another.
]
] His biggest mistake came while the bus was mired in
] traffic on Route 9. After exasperated passengers asked if
] he knew where he was going, the driver got on the public
] address system and made a remark he would soon regret.
]
] "I'm taking you to the Taliban," Weisbrot heard him say.
] "Don't worry about it."
]
] It was a bad, nonsensical joke, everyone agrees now. But
] with the specter of war with Iraq looming and Osama bin
] Laden still at large, America is hardly in a lighthearted
] mood."

I don't know, I'm an American and I'm in a lighthearted mood because I thought this whole thing was pretty funny...

] For instance, Electric Boat, a General Dynamics

Oh crap. There goes my bonus.

Gun nut's house catches fire
Topic: Local Information 3:18 pm EST, Dec  4, 2002

] "Arthur Arford loves his guns -- all 382 of them".

I still like the idea that if the ammunition had caught fire, bullets would be exploding and flying all over the place. That would have been neat.

Truck falls off ferry
Topic: Local Information 10:39 am EST, Nov 20, 2002

This is sad as hell. This ferry departs from directly across the river from my house. There's quite a few ferries that leave from New London, and they go to about 4 or 5 different places. I watch them leave from my kitchen window all the time, hear them blow their horns upon leaving... I can't believe something like this happened, it's so sad.
