The whole nation thought he was a crazy old man to undertake an almost impossible feat. Most feared that he would die trying. But this humble old man proved all the critics wrong.Cliff Young, at 61 years of age, participated in 1983’s Sydney to Melbourne race. Considered to be the world’s toughest race, with the distance of 875 (543.7 m) kilometers and took at least 5 days to finish, Cliff Young entered the race against world-class athletes. Read how he achieved the unthinkable and inspires the whole nation.
He finished the 875-kilometre race in 5 days, 15 hours and 4 minutes. Not knowing that he was supposed to sleep during the race, he said when running throughout the race, he imagined that he was chasing sheep and trying to outrun a storm.
Cliff came to prominence again in 1997, aged 76, when he attempted to become the oldest man to run around Australia and raise money for homeless children. He managed to completed 6,520km of the 16,000km run before he had to pull out after his only permanent crew member became ill.

How do we get that to happen?
That's a good question. I'm not completely sure. I'd like to think that the old google bomb might help, just placed on a social networking site, like digg or reddit. having all of the loyal users here post and post about how great this site is. without being offensive, annoying, or down right idiotic is the key. but again not sure how to do this. could work with getting the users here to not only post the stories to memestreams, but have them post the same stories or links to the other social sites, but use memestreams as the launch page.
ESPN - Terror threat leads to cancellation of Dakar Rally - Racing

The annual Dakar Rally was canceled Friday on the eve of the race across the Sahara Desert because of terror threats and the recent killings of a French family in Mauritania blamed on al-Qaida-linked militants.
It was the first time in the 30-year history of the automobile, motorbike and truck race that it has been called off. In a statement, organizers blamed international tensions, the tourists' Dec. 24 murders and "threats launched directly against the race by terrorist organizations."

Texas legends are filled with tales of cowboys, cattle and campfires. RJ “Bob” Lee built a legend of his own when he cooked steaks over an open flame until a bragging cowboy couldn’t eat another bite. The result was the steak that made Amarillo famous.
In the early ‘60s when Bob Lee first opened the Big Texan Steak Ranch the cowboys still came into town at the end of the week. One night a lanky cowboy came through the front door of the restaurant declaring he was so hungry he could “eat the whole darned cow.”
Bob, always ready to have some fun, gave him a big grin and started cooking steaks. When the cowboy finally yelled, “calf rope,” he had consumed 4 ½ pounds of meat. Bob declared from that day forward, the meal would be free to anyone who could eat it all in 1 hour.

Well, this would definitely help eliminate door dings, especially with the assholes that don't know how to park their own cars. This is pretty awesome.
Iran, China finalise two billion dollar oil contract - Yahoo! News

TEHRAN (AFP) - Iran and China's Sinopec on Sunday signed a two billion dollar contract to develop a major Iranian oil field, a crucial deal for the Iranian energy industry at a time of mounting international pressure.
"The initial estimation of cost of the project is about 2.0 billion dollars and the final cost of the project will be decided after the offering of the tenders," said Iranian Oil Minister Gholam Hossein Nozari.
Sounds like things are getting better for us all the time. What I'm wondering now is, what denomination are they using since Iran doesn't take the dollar anymore and China keeps their Yuan low.
