Google's new Favicon
by Acidus at 1:18 pm EDT, Jun 10, 2008

Google's new Favicon pisses me off. I'm not sure why. I know this is irrational, but that doesn't make me dislike that lowercase "g" any less.

I strongly second this. For some reason I cannot associate a lower case purple cursive "g" with Google. The result is that I can't find my Google tabs easily anymore. I have to stop and pay attention to the tab bar to find the window I want. I'm sure this will pass as I associate the two concepts in my head, but generally speaking, Boo.

Let me recommend a simple edit to your proxy auto-configuration file.

function FindProxyForURL(url, host)
{
if (shExpMatch(url, "http://www.google.com/favicon.ico")) {
return "PROXY 127.0.0.1:8080";
}
else
return "DIRECT";
}

Now, when your browser tries to fetch the offending favicon, you can feed it the Good Old Capital G you've grown to know and love.

only my company uses a network hosted PAC that they change fairly often, so this isnt an option. Unless PAC files can direct you to other PAC files... hmmmmm

Apparently Google discusses the travisty here. A collection of alternative icons that fell on the cutting room floor is offered.

I blame Marissa Mayer.

I blame her for this favicon that is just.... terrible.

Oh, and for being CRAZY HOT! Lets just make the favicon a picture of her. I could totally deal with that.
