] Snyder of Elmira, Ont., died at Grady Hospital from
] massive brain injuries without ever regaining
] consciousness, the team said.

] Police said Heatley was driving his Ferrari at about 130
] kmh on a narrow two-lane road last Monday night when he
] lost control, spun off the road and smashed into a brick
] and wrought iron fence.

] The car split in half. The players were thrown into the
] road.

] Heatley already was facing several charges, including a
] felony.

] Miroslav Satan signed a two-year contract with the

] and has said he wanted to be the team's highest-paid
] player.

] ATLANTA (AP) -- Atlanta Thrashers star Dany Heatley was
] charged with driving recklessly when he veered off a road
] and slammed his sportscar into a wall at about 80 mph,
] leaving him with a broken jaw and teammate Dan Snyder
] critically injured.

] The Thrashers said Snyder, a passenger in the car, had
] surgery early Tuesday at Grady Memorial Hospital for a
] depressed fracture in his skull. Heatley broke his left
] jaw and was in stable condition, the team said.
]
] Atlanta police spokesman Sgt. John Quigley said Heatley
] was driving his Ferrari shortly before 11 p.m. Monday
] night when the car left the road and struck a wall in
] front of an apartment complex.
]
] The vehicle broke in half, Quigley said. Heatley also was

] year when players and owners clash next fall over league
] costs, according to a former hockey great who signed the
] game's first million-dollar contract.

] On a tour of North America in a bid to start a rival
] league, Bobby Hull says costs are soaring out of control.
] Players are sure to be locked out by owners next
] September, he said.
