The Memory Hole: US Forces Make Iraqis Strip and Walk Naked in Public
Topic: Current Events 7:17 am EDT, Jul  3, 2003

] On 25 April 2003, the newspaper Dagbladet (Norway)
] published photos of armed US soldiers forcing Iraqi
] men to walk naked through a park.

] On the chests of the men had been scrawled an Arabic
] phrase that translates as "Ali Baba - Thief."

] A military officer states that the men are thieves,
] and that this technique will be used again.

I agree that order must be created in Iraq. The question is, who should create this order, and how should they create it? Soldiers live in a world of strict rules, and strict punishments. Did this soldier act as though he was taught to act? I believe so. Was he taught to act appropriately when dealing with this sort of situation, given the volatile nature of the society? No.

You send soldiers to kill people. You can even send soldiers to keep the peace. However, don't send them when diplomacy is a large issue. Doesn't the military have MPs over there that can deal with the punishment of criminal offenses? If not, they should.
