Networking Configuration for Mac OS X/Darwin
Topic: Technology 12:18 am EST, Nov  8, 2004

] First, since it is a "default", it makes some sense that
] there is only one of them (whatever it is). There are
] some systems that feature multiple default routes, but
] these are typically either routers, supporting complex
] route maintenance protocols, or systems that use more
] than one default route in a sort of round-robin scheme
] (called multipath routing) to balance traffic through
] multiple routers. Mac OS X/Darwin does not support more
] than one active default route.

Okay OS X guys... how do you get OS X to do this? I want to get two USB wireless cards and pool me and me neighbor's wireless connections into one big fat ass pipe.

Any ideas?

Anyone ever made/know anyone who made the move to Bangalore, India?
Topic: Technology 12:15 pm EDT, Oct  1, 2004

So, I have a software engineer friend from Bangalore. He is visiting there now. He wants to start a company there. I am tempted. I think it would be as interesting as Moscow, but much, much easier. Friendly people, many IT jobs available for Americans ($15-20K for Linux/Perl geeks), with western standard living for about $5K a year. I get antsy when I stay in one place for too long, and I've been in the states over a year.

I kinda feel like Bangalore would have that hustle/bustle that makes for a good city. Plus the nightlife is pretty western... lots of clubs, pubs, etc.

My problem is that I don't know anyone that has made the move, and I've only found one page on someone that did. They liked it alot... but I'd like more opinions.

Anyone? Bueller? Bueller? Farris Bueller?

This is like iChat's voice capability, that works between PCs and Macs. The audio is good. Someone should setup a memestreams server for conference calls, so we can hear Vile talk shit. Very nice. Its free, but it costs 1.7 cents a minute to call a real phone number from your PC.

Truly decentralised peer-to-peer (P2P) software can't be held accountable for its misuse, according to a US federal appeals court.

US Circuit Court in Los Angeles, threw a major brick in the path of entertainment companies which have been trying to have the courts shut down companies running the P2P networks.

"From the advent of the player piano, every new means of
reproducing sound has struck a dissonant chord with musical
copyright owners, often resulting in federal litigation. This
appeal is the latest reprise of that recurring conflict, and one
of a continuing series of lawsuits between the recording
industry and distributors of file-sharing computer software."

"[W]e live in a quicksilver technological
environment with courts ill-suited to fix the flow of
internet innovation....The introduction of new technology is always disruptive to old markets and particularly to those copyright owners whose works are sold through well-established distribution mechanisms," the court wrote.

SubEthaEdit - Collaborative Editing Software for OSX

] Editing documents in groups can be a challenge.
] Versioning systems like subversion or cvs help your group
] to keep a consistent copy of your document, but don't
] provide realtime collaboration. Wouldn't it be great to

Blacktree - Quicksilver - Mac OXS launcher
Topic: Technology 1:31 am EDT, Apr  9, 2004

] Quicksilver is an evolving framework for accessing and
] manipulating many forms of personal data.
] Existing modules include a launcher, a clipboard
] recorder, and a shelf.

This is a truly awesome launcher app for OSX. Using keywords you type in, it launches a dynamic menu for picking to launch apps, open documents, visit bookmarks, etc. Its that much less you have to take your hands off the keyboard.

This may be the latest must have app for OSX. I continue to be very pleased with the overall evolution of OSX as a workstation platform.

Jello: Aaaaawwwww SHEYAT! This is the bomb on my trust iBook. I'm getting some Question Mark Stencils tomorrow and I'm doing this mother up like the riddler in honor of this cool new app.
