Girl born with 8 limbs leaves hospital - Yahoo! News
Topic: Health and Wellness 2:03 pm EST, Dec 17, 2007

BANGALORE, India - A 2-year-old girl who was born with four arms and four legs left a hospital in southern India on Saturday, little more than a month after surgeons successfully removed her extra limbs.

The surgeon who led more than 30 doctors in the marathon surgery said Lakshmi was making good progress and should be mobile soon.

"Lakshmi is fine and stable," chief surgeon Dr. Sharan Patil told The Associated Press. "She should face no problem in walking."

I wonder if she still has godlike powers, or if those were in the dead twin.

WHO to investigate Pakistan bird flu - Yahoo! News
Topic: Health and Wellness 1:51 pm EST, Dec 17, 2007

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan - International health experts have been dispatched to Pakistan to help investigate the cause of South Asia's first outbreak of bird flu in people and determine if the virus could have been transmitted through human contact, officials said Sunday.

Four brothers — two of whom died — and two cousins from Abbotabad, a small city about 30 miles north of Islamabad, were suspected of being infected by the H5N1 virus, said WHO spokesman Gregory Hartl in Geneva. A man and his niece from the same area who had slaughtered chickens were also suspected of having the virus.

Another person in a separate case who slaughtered poultry in nearby Mansehra, 15 miles away, also tested positive for the disease, he said.

Details surrounding the cases remained confusing, with Pakistan's Health Ministry issuing a statement Saturday saying six people had initially tested positive for the virus last month, while the WHO said eight had been reported. Hartl said the discrepancy was likely linked to a technicality since six patients had tested positive using an internationally recommended method while a less reliable test was used on the others.

The fit may have just shit the fan. Merry Christmas! I hear gas-masks are the new hot item.

DVICE: Gold Pill makes your poop glitter for $425
Topic: Health and Wellness 10:38 am EST, Dec 12, 2007

If you've got so much money that you're just looking for new ways to waste it, Tobias Wong and Ju$t Another Rich Kid created the Gold Pill for you. It's a pill dipped in gold and filled with 24-karat gold leaf. You're supposed to eat it "to increase your self-worth." That would be funny if it didn't cost $425 for the joke. Supposedly an added benefit is that it will make your poop sparkle, but no one seems to have proven that part yet (and if you do, please don't send us the pictures). This is either genius social commentary or a brilliant way to bilk rich people out of their money. If Wong's name sounds familiar, it's probably because he also created the $2,000 ccPhone.

The new rich mans dope is just plain shitty.

Japan Today - News - Yokohama school to cancel lunch for 2 days due to oil price hike
Topic: Health and Wellness 5:15 pm EST, Dec  6, 2007

YOKOHAMA — An elementary school run by the city of Yokohama has decided not to serve lunch for two days in January due to the hike in food costs stemming from the recent upsurge in crude oil prices, the city education board said Wednesday. It is the only known case of one of its schools curtailing lunch services because of soaring oil prices, according to the board.

An official of the Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Ministry also called the decision "unusual nationwide." Ekoda Elementary School decided to cancel lunches on Jan 8-9 as higher food prices led meal costs up to October to surpass initial estimates by nearly 10%. In Yokohama, all 347 city-run elementary schools prepare their lunches on their own and collect 3,700 yen per month, or about 220 yen per day, from pupils. Additional charges are not allowed.

Yum... Petroleum.

RINGWOOD -- Notice to those hunting near Ford's toxic dump site: This year, squirrels are safe to eat, but don't add lead-laced wild carrots to the recipe.

That's the latest advice from federal and state agencies investigating potential health threats from toxic waste buried in Upper Ringwood near a residential neighborhood and in a corner of Ringwood State Park.

After startling local hunters with an official report last winter that elevated levels of lead were found in a squirrel at Ford Motor Co.'s former landfill area, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced last week that those test results were actually caused by a lab problem.

The EPA issued a press release stating that the problem was caused by a defective blender. But adding to confusion on the wildlife tests, the federal agency also posted on its Web site a detailed April report from its lab consultants describing how they found the same defect in three blenders, which led to discarding five of 73 wildlife samples.

...

"Are we safe with eating squirrels?" asked Roger DeGroat, who lives across Peters Mine Road from the area where the wildlife was tested. "I'd like to have a definitive answer."

If you need squirrel meat that badly to risk consuming toxic waste, you must really like to eat squirrel.

THE THOUGHT SCREEN HELMET STOPS ALIENS FROM ABDUCTING HUMANS. IT'S A TESTED DEVICE THAT WORKS.

THIS WEBSITE TELLS YOU HOW TO MAKE A THOUGHT SCREEN HELMET, THE MATERIALS AND TOOLS YOU NEED TO MAKE ONE, AND WHERE YOU CAN OBTAIN THE MATERIALS

HERE is proof that the helmet receives MICROWAVE signals WHICH MAY BE from aliens.

Photograph copyright by Michael Menkin, 2007.

A Fluke Multimeter shows a voltage which proves that the thought screen helmet intercepts a microwave signal although the source of the signal cannot be determined. It also demonstrates that aliens are neither paranormal nor supernatural. Test made by a man with two helmets who was being abducted. See the development section for more information on this historic discovery.

Mayor Resigns, Claims Abduction By Satan Worshippers - Local News Story - KHBS Ft. Smith

CENTERTON, Ark. -- The mayor of an Arkansas town resigned on Wednesday, claiming he was abducted and brainwashed by Satan worshippers nearly three decades ago.

Centerton Mayor Ken Williams said he has been living under an assumed name for nearly 30 years. He had been mayor since 2001.

Williams told authorities he was born Don LaRose and that in the mid-1970s, he was a preacher in Indiana. He said he was abducted and brainwashed into forgetting all about his life as Don LaRose.

It was a double-life he had never acknowledged, Williams said, because he didn't even realize it existed until he had recently taken a truth-serum injection.

As Williams regained his memory, he said, he realized that he had a wife and two kids but that he had decided to leave and take on a new identity to protect them.

Something tells me this guy is schizophrenic...

Why is it always Satan Worshipers or Aliens?

China recycling used condoms as cheap hair bands - Yahoo! News
Topic: Health and Wellness 3:40 pm EST, Nov 23, 2007

BEIJING (AFP) - Used condoms are being recycled into hair bands in southern China, threatening to spread sexually-transmittable diseases they were originally meant to prevent, state media reported Tuesday.

In the latest example of potentially harmful Chinese-made products, rubber hair bands have been found in local markets and beauty salons in Dongguan and Guangzhou cities in southern Guangdong province, China Daily newspaper said.

"These cheap and colourful rubber bands and hair ties sell well ... threatening the health of local people," it said.

Despite being recycled, the hair bands could still contain bacteria and viruses, it said.

"People could be infected with AIDS, (genital) warts or other diseases if they hold the rubber bands or strings in their mouths while waving their hair into plaits or buns," the paper quoted a local dermatologist who gave only his surname, Dong, as saying.

i don't really think there's a risk but still pretty gross.
Like recycled toiletpaper, it's just something you shouldn't do.

Just throw the fucking thing away...

Doping on brain-boosting drugs | Special reports | Guardian Unlimited

Mark is a good student. Intelligent and diligent, he won a place to read modern languages at one of Britain's top 10 universities. But in the run-up to his finals this summer, with a towering pile of revision still to go, the 23-year-old decided he wasn't going to be good enough. So he went on the internet, found an online pharmacy based in Turkey, and bought a pack of modafinil. It's a prescription drug given to narcoleptics, but it has also been shown to boost alertness and mental agility in healthy users. After a week of taking a tablet a day, sleeping only four hours a night, then, thanks to the drug, waking up refreshed, Mark took his exams. He got a first. Would he have done so well without pharmaceutical help? "Unlikely," he says.
