] You know who you are. You've got thousands of song
] titles in your iTunes music library that you are
] constantly adding to and you've got a playlist for
] every occasion. You listen to your music at work and
] while you're playing. So when you want to change a song
] or browse all of the albums by your favorite artist or
] just pause the currently playing song, why should you
] have to stop what you're doing and go to iTunes? You
] shouldn't have to, and now you don't.

This is the best iTunes controller I've come across. At the current time, they appear to be giving away free registration keys for it.

This application does global hotkeys, but its not exactly intuitive about how you set them. Hold your mouse over the command in the context menu you want to set the hotkey for, then hit the hotkey. Some hotkeys simply don't work, so if you have having trouble setting one, try another.

Aluminum Foil Deflector Beanie
Topic: Technology 2:02 pm EST, Nov  4, 2004

] An Aluminum Foil Deflector Beanie (AFDB) is a type of
] headwear that can shield your brain from most
] electromagnetic psychotronic mind control carriers. AFDBs
] are inexpensive (even free if you don't mind scrounging
] for thrown-out aluminium foil) and can be constructed by
] anyone with at least the dexterity of a chimp (maybe
] bonobo). This cheap and unobtrusive form of mind control
] protection offers real security to the masses. Not only
] do they protect against incoming signals, but they also
] block most forms of brain scanning and mind reading,
] keeping the secrets in your head truly secret. AFDBs are
] safe and operate automatically. All you do is make it and
] wear it and you're good to go! Plus, AFDBs are stylish
] and comfortable.

US website offers Caller ID falsification service | The Register
Topic: Technology 11:32 am EDT, Aug 31, 2004

] Overdue debtors beware: You may not be able to rely on
] Caller ID to screen out those annoying bill collectors
] much longer. A California entrepreneur has a plan to
] bring the hacker technique of Caller ID spoofing to the
] business world, beginning with collection agencies and
] private investigators.
]
] Slated for launch this week, Star38.com would offer
] subscribers a simple Web interface to a Caller ID
] spoofing system that lets them appear to be calling from
] any number they choose. "It creates an extra avenue for
] them to have someone pick up the phone," says founder
] Jason Jepson.

This is a good thing in away..."Please hold on one minute while i verify your telephone...Hmmm, It appears that this telephone # does not belong to the company you claim to be from. I don't know who you are, so I can't answer any of your questions. I will report this call to the police."

Wired News: Nano Killers Aim at Mini Tumors
Topic: Technology 5:08 pm EDT, Jun 22, 2004

A company called Kereos is developing a pair of nanotechnologies to identify tumors that measure just 1 mm in diameter, then kill them with a tiny but precise amount of a chemotherapy drug.

The technologies, if approved by the Food and Drug Administration, would not only find cancers in their earliest stages before they can do damage or spread, but also deliver a small amount of a drug targeted directly at tumors, which would cause little or no side effects.

Pretty neat.

Memory prices soar - News - ZDNet
Topic: Technology 12:14 pm EDT, Apr 21, 2004

The price of memory chips is rising at its fastest rate in more than four years due to an unexpected global shortage.

The price rise of more than 70 percent this year is in sharp contrast to analysts' expectations at the end of 2003, when they forecast prices would slide as new production technology increased supply.
As a result, profits for chipmakers are increasing, and their share prices are surging as analysts and traders now predict that memory prices will stay strong this year.

Might be a good time to stock up on ram before the shit hits the fan.

My Way News | FDA Approves Human Brain Implant Devices
Topic: Technology 3:57 am EDT, Apr 15, 2004

] BOSTON (AP) - For years, futurists have dreamed of
] machines that can read minds, then act on instructions as
] they are thought. Now, human trials are set to begin on a
] brain-computer interface involving implants.
]
] Cyberkinetics Inc. of Foxboro, Mass., has received Food
] and Drug Administration approval to begin a clinical
] trial in which four-square-millimeter chips will be
] placed beneath the skulls of paralyzed patients.
]
] If successful, the chips could allow patients to command
] a computer to act - merely by thinking about the
] instructions they wish to send.

Blacktree - Quicksilver - Mac OXS launcher
Topic: Technology 2:57 pm EDT, Apr  9, 2004

] Quicksilver is an evolving framework for accessing and
] manipulating many forms of personal data.
] Existing modules include a launcher, a clipboard
] recorder, and a shelf.

This is a truly awesome launcher app for OSX. Using keywords you type in, it launches a dynamic menu for picking to launch apps, open documents, visit bookmarks, etc. Its that much less you have to take your hands off the keyboard.

This may be the latest must have app for OSX. I continue to be very pleased with the overall evolution of OSX as a workstation platform.
