Scaring the crap out of unvisited tribes!
Topic: Science 11:12 am EDT, May 30, 2008

In this image made available Thursday May 29, 2008, from Survival International, 'uncontacted Indians' of the Envira, who have never before had any contact with the outside world, are seen during an overflight in May 2008, as they camp in the Terra Indigena Kampa e Isolados do Envira, Acre state, Brazil, close to the border with Peru. 'We did the overflight to show their houses, to show they are there, to show they exist,' said uncontacted tribes expert Jon

I think this started kind of like this:

Jones: Steve! Steve! listen to me! I'm got a killer idea! Lets go take a giant gleaming helicopter, and fly it over a bunch of people who have never seen technology before!

Steve: Brilliant!

...

At least they didn't land and proclaim themselves gods. Because that went really well last time.

Men want hot women, study confirms
Topic: Science 11:18 am EDT, Sep  4, 2007

In case you missed the memo (or the stares in Junior high...)

Science is confirming what most women know: When given the choice for a mate, men go for good looks.

I like beautiful AND brainy!

The men also appeared to be much less choosy. Men tended to select nearly every woman above a certain minimum attractiveness threshold, Todd said.

Women's actual choices, like men's, did not reflect their stated preferences, but they made more discriminating choices, the researchers found.

The scientists said women were aware of the importance of their own attractiveness to men, and adjusted their expectations to select the more desirable guys.

"Women made offers to men who had overall qualities that were on a par with the women's self-rated attractiveness. They didn't greatly overshoot their attractiveness," Todd said, "because part of the goal for women is to choose men who would stay with them"

A practical model for analyzing long tails
Topic: Science 12:22 pm EDT, Jun 28, 2007

In essence, the phrase “long tail” refers to those numerous objects that have very limited popularity but that together form a significant share of the total volume. The aim of this article is to make it possible for anyone to utilize the long tail concept not only as a general idea but also as a tool to make realistic and useful analysis of real phenomena.

A feasible analysis requires a mathematical model, enough raw data, and good understanding of the subject and the properties of the model. Thus not only is a formula necessary in this essay, in fact the selected formula forms the concrete basis for the whole analysis of long tails. Nevertheless, we have to be aware of the fact that there cannot be any simple formula that is able to explain all the diverse phenomena that result in a long tail distribution.

3/4 shot peach vodka.
3/4 shot peach schnapps
1/2 shot triple sec
fill with OJ

So so tasty... Its a tie between #3 and #4.

I want to cook brownies, but I don't know if I should operate a stove right now. but its really hard to burn down the apartment with an electric over. Hmmmmm...

Saturday Night Science: Drink 2
Topic: Science 8:20 pm EDT, Apr  7, 2007

1 shot peach vodka
1/2 shot peach schnapps
1/2 shot triple sec
fill with OJ
splash of grenadine

Much smoother than drink #1. I can't tell if thats because my brain is feeling a little fuzzy and I wouldn't try to drive right now. The problem is while I can't taste the alcohol, the drink as a whole feels watered down. I think I'll halve the vodka next round

Peach Martini Attempt 1:

Well, the first problem is I don't have a martini glass. The closest thing I have is a red wine glass, while holds a lot more than a martini glass. Cest la via.

1 shot peach vodka
1 shot triple sec
1 shot peach schnapps
fill with orange juice
splash of grenadine.

Results:
Whoa! harsh at first. I think a little less vodka. I'm about halfway done and my head is swimming. This is going to be a long night for a girlie drinking man.

Saturday Night Science
Topic: Science 7:48 pm EDT, Apr  7, 2007

Jill and I went to the Atlanta Fish Market last weekend on a $200 gift card I won back at the SPI Kickoff party in January. The food was excellent and they also had a lovely drink: A Peach martini! Jill and I had 4 between the two of us and needless got more than a little toasted. We asked different waiters and bartenders what was in in, and we kept getting different answers. However, most answers seemed to revolve around these ingredients:

-Peach Vodka
-Peach Schnapps
-Triple Sec
-Orange Juice
-Cherry grenadine

I have purchased these, and tonight will attempt to reverse engineer the drink, as I couldn't find the drink in Webtender.
