"To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public." -Theodore Roosevelt

"When you're born in the world you're given a ticket to the freakshow; when you're born in America you're given a front-row seat. And some of us in the front row have notebooks and pencils." -George Carlin

Moving to protect the Frist inquiry from any future criticism for not being thorough, the SEC changed its status to formal from informal and gave investigators subpoena power to force individuals to talk or to produce documents or e-mails.

And now, stepping into the batter's box for the defending Republican

CNN.com - Report: Ice-free Arctic summers possible by 2100 - Sep 28, 2005
Topic: Science 9:33 pm EDT, Sep 29, 2005

As of September 21, the Arctic sea ice area had dropped to 2.05 million square miles (5.31 million square km), the report said.

From 1978 to 2000, the sea ice area averaged 2.70 million square miles (7 million square km), the report said. It noted the melting trend had shrunk Inuit hunting grounds and endangered polar bears, seals and other wildlife.

Would someone opposed to the idea of global warming like to explain this without it being real?

CNN.com - Jews condemn Southern Baptist effort - Sep 29, 2005
Topic: Society 9:29 pm EDT, Sep 29, 2005

At the heart of the ADL's complaint is a decision by the Southern Baptist Convention executive committee to ask its missionary boards to study the idea of recognizing the Southern Baptist Messianic Fellowship as "an evangelistic mission to Jewish people."

Whoops! I wonder how this will effect their relationship with Israel.

Judge Orders Release of Abu Ghraib Photos
Topic: War on Terrorism 7:13 pm EDT, Sep 29, 2005

The government argued that America's enemies might exploit the pictures for propaganda purposes by saying the photos represent the attitudes of all Americans toward the Iraqi people.

The judge acknowledged such a risk but said "the education and debate that such publicity will foster will strengthen our purpose, and, by enabling such deficiencies as may be perceived to be debated and corrected, show our strength as a vibrant and functioning democracy to be emulated."

Thank you Judge Hellerstein. That position is exactly why the United States is a great country.

I believe that the greatest threat to liberty in the United States is posed by the religious right, largely comprised of Christian fundamentalists. Across a broad spectrum of issues they want to move the law in a radically more conservative direction, ultimately threatening our freedom.

Conservative doesn't describe them properly. Reactionary would be a better word.

Sen. Christopher Dodd, D-Conn., said he will offer amendments to the defense appropriations bill working its way through Congress, to take the funding issue out of the hands of Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld and give control to military unit commanders in the field.

“Rumsfeld is violating the law,” Dodd said in an interview with The Associated Press. “It’s been sitting on the books for over a year. They were opposed to it. It was insulting to them. I’m sorry that’s how they felt.”

In response to that Osprey purchase order, how about if the military shells out to get the troops the armor that they were supposed to have going in?

FEMA to reimburse faith groups for helping victims
Topic: Current Events 4:19 pm EDT, Sep 28, 2005

The Federal Emergency Management Agency will reimburse churches and other religious organizations that have provided shelter, food and supplies to the victims of hurricanes Katrina and Rita, the Washington Post reported on Tuesday.

The payments with taxpayer money would mark the first time that the government has made such payments to faith-based groups at a time following natural disasters, the newspaper reported, citing FEMA officials.

WHAT??? Isn't that what "charity" is all about? What the hell is this?

Hell yeah, I agree. Bush is really bad - he's not a tax and spend liberal, he just spends and then doesn't tax - and like, where the hell is all this money going to come from?

[Oh my god, something is wrong! I've agreed with Ibenez twice!]
