Soldiers still waiting for armor reimbursements - Conflict in Iraq - MSNBC.com
Topic: Politics and Law 5:32 pm EDT, Sep 29, 2005

Sen. Christopher Dodd, D-Conn., said he will offer amendments to the defense appropriations bill working its way through Congress, to take the funding issue out of the hands of Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld and give control to military unit commanders in the field.

“Rumsfeld is violating the law,” Dodd said in an interview with The Associated Press. “It’s been sitting on the books for over a year. They were opposed to it. It was insulting to them. I’m sorry that’s how they felt.”

In response to that Osprey purchase order, how about if the military shells out to get the troops the armor that they were supposed to have going in?

The Tom DeLay Indictment
Topic: Politics and Law 1:12 pm EDT, Sep 28, 2005

Violating the Texas state campaign finance laws isn't easy, but dang, is that a check for $190,000? Sure is. Whoops.

Recruits Sought for FBI Anti-Porn Squad
Topic: Politics and Law 1:09 am EDT, Sep 22, 2005

Public corruption, officially, is fourth on the FBI's priority list, after protecting the United States from terrorist attack, foreign espionage and cyber-based attacks. Just below those priorities are civil rights, organized crime, white-collar crime and "significant violent crime." The guidance from headquarters does not mention where pornography fits in.

Porn is worse than screwing people out of the vote, organized crime, assholes like Ken Lay screwing people out of billions, and murder and kidnapping??? These people need a swift kick in the ass.

Bush Official Arrested in Corruption Probe
Topic: Politics and Law 1:04 am EDT, Sep 22, 2005

The Bush administration's top federal procurement official resigned Friday and was arrested yesterday, accused of lying and obstructing a criminal investigation into Republican lobbyist Jack Abramoff's dealings with the federal government. It was the first criminal complaint filed against a government official in the ongoing corruption probe related to Abramoff's activities in Washington.

Think we will ever hear a final official number for how many tax payer dollars were misappropriated due to this guy?

Why trim the pork when you can just get rid of the pigs? Haw haw haw..

[I wonder, are we seeing the dominos start to fall or is Karl Rove going to manage to make this turn into a tree falling in an empty forest? I'm sure there will be more to come...]

Concerned Women for America - Leadership

I do so love seeing things like this. "...to protect and promote Biblical values for women and families." Oh, so the real goal of Concerned Women for America is to make sure they stay second class people? And if it's "Concerned Women for America" could you explain why spots 3-5 on the list are guys?

Please, do the rest of the country a favor and go screw yourselves before stepping in front of the nearest speeding train.

Dean's charges are impassioned and more severe than many of Bush's most persistent critics. But those charges are realized only after careful reasoning and steady logic by a man who knows his way around scandal and corruption.

As a former White House counsel, John Dean (that's JOHN Dean not HOWARD Dean) knows what he's talking about on every level of this. The real question will be, what happens in 2008 when someone not named W goes to the White House and tells their new AG to get the SoB.

Assuming of course they don't stage a Reichstag fire between now and then.

Hurricane Forecasters Were Quite Accurate - Yahoo! News
Topic: Politics and Law 3:05 pm EDT, Sep 16, 2005

For all the criticism of the Bush administration's confused response to Hurricane Katrina, at least two federal agencies got it right: the National Weather Service and the National Hurricane Center.

And these are the same two organizations that Rick Santorum wants to dismantle because they compete with private forecasting companies. (http://www.palmbeachpost.com/news/content/news/epaper/2005/04/21/m1a_wx_0421.html)

Yep, that's right, let's put those public dollars where they belong, in the pockets of people like Santorum and W's cronies.

Firms with Bush ties snag Katrina deals
Topic: Politics and Law 1:15 am EDT, Sep 12, 2005

Experts say it has been common practice in both Republican and Democratic administrations for policy makers to take lobbying jobs once they leave office, and many of the same companies seeking contracts in the wake of Hurricane Katrina have already received billions of dollars for work in Iraq.

Once again, the experts are wrong. Starting in about 1996, "K Street," the nickname of the Washington lobbing groups, has become almost exclusively Republican. This was a pet projust of people like Grover Norquist, and that sector is virtually devoid of Democrats. This happened deliberately. The Republicans moved to control the main lobbying organizations, who then work with their Republican brethren in office to get their groups the goodies, strengthening their position with both cash and pork.

There is a line in Henry VI which reads "The first thing we do, let's kill all the lawyers." This was written because the lawyers would be the ones to stand in the way of a usurper (like my tagline), not as a condemnation of lawyers, but that they would defend the rule of law. The version I like is "The first thing we do, let's kill all the lobbyists." Right now all they are doing is lining pockets at a huge cost to every one of us.

Analysis Sees Deficits Growing Under Bush - Yahoo! News
Topic: Politics and Law 2:22 am EDT, Sep 10, 2005

"Under CBO's new analysis of the Bush Administration's policies, every vital sign of the budget grows decidedly worse over the next ten years," said Spratt. "These new deficit figures show that the budget has deteriorated dramatically on this administration's watch."

And this comes as a surprise to anyone?
