Construction of the U.S. embassy in Iraq, set to open in September, is projected to cost $592 million, with a staff of 1,000 people and operating costs totaling $1.2 billion a year. It will be a 104-acre complex, which is the size of approximately 80 football fields. On May 10, Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-VT) criticized the ballooning size and cost of the embassy in a hearing with Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice:
Hmmm.... Its not quite correct. It's missing the giant bullseye. Think Progress PHOTOS: The $592 Million U.S. Embassy In Iraq |

k wrote: Sometime after he killed two people in a Virginia university dormitory but before he slaughtered 30 more in a classroom building, Cho Seung-Hui mailed NBC News a large package including photographs and videos Monday morning, boasting, “When the time came, I did it. I had to.” The package included an 1,800-word manifesto-like statement diatribe in which Cho expresses rage, resentment and a desire to get even. The material does not include any images of the shootings Monday, but it does contain vague references. And it mentions “martyrs like Eric and Dylan” — apparently a reference to Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold... The material is deeply angry, crying out against unspecified wrongs done to him in a diatribe laced with profanity. “I didn’t have to do this. I could have left. I could have fled. But no, I will no longer run. It’s not for me. For my children, for my brothers and sisters that you f---, I did it for them,” Cho says on one of the videos.
Whow... [Wow indeed. Fucking raving lunatic jackass. -k]
Really annoying that they don't make the whole manifesto available. It seems that he wasn't very good at stringing together coherent thoughts, viewing them out of context is pretty irritating. It's also somewhat ironic that there's a sound off page for his diatribe (which no ones allowed to read). I could understand if maybe this was with held to catch a criminal, but the asshole is dead. If they're as overblown as the retarded scripts i'm going to be even more annoyed. RE: Gunman in massacre contacted NBC News |

offer my soul to God as a sacrifice, and if He wants, He will send it to heaven with the martyrs,... so let us depend on Him against the unjust nations.

One thousand cans of the neon-coloured plastic goo known as Silly String have been packed off to Iraq to help save the lives of US troops. Despite living in an age of big-budget high-tech weapons systems, cans of the stuff - previously the preserve of kids' parties - are making a genuine difference. US troops in the Gulf regularly use the "string" to detect trip wires around bombs, as Marcelle Shriver learned from her son, who is a soldier there.

NEW YORK -- Broadcast news reports say that a small airplane has crashed into a building in New York City. Flames could be seen pouring from the building across two floors. The Federal Aviation Administration told CNN that a small, multi-engine private plane struck the 20-floor residential building at 72nd Street and York Ave. Witnesses said the crash caused a loud noise, and burning and falling debris was seen. Flames were seen shooting out of the windows. "There's huge pieces of debris falling," said one witness who refused to give her full name. "There's so much falling now, I've got to get away." Whether anyone was injured was not known, and it was unclear if the crash was an act of terrorism. The address of the building is 524 E. 72nd Street - a 50-story condominium tower built in 1986 and located nearby Sotheby's Auction House. It has 183 apartments, many of which sell for more than $1 million.

Chris Wallace interviews Bill Clinton, asks a long accusatory question about why he didn't do more to kill Bin Laden, and gets a 13 minute ass whooping in return. A must see. Gold star.
I think it's funny that the interviewer used his lead in from This Daily Show Interview. From Jon Stewart, who's been accused of not asking hard hitting enough questions for a comedy show. RE: Clinton PWNS Chris Wallace on Fox News - Clinton Interviewed on Fox News Sunday - Google Video |

When it comes to hunger strikes, I guess practice makes perfect.. Snow told the daily press briefing Saddam agreed to be put on a feeding tube but said he did not know whether the procedure was performed at the detention facility where Saddam is being held or whether the former Iraqi leader had been hospitalized.
[Insert Terri Schiavo joke here]
Ha! Maybe he thinks his people enjoyed starving all those years that he would give it a shot himself. I think part of this hunger strike that might fall flat is that no one cares if he lives or not. He should have stuck to Doritos. RE: UPI - WH confirms Saddam on feeding tube |

Okay. I saw this mentioned on CNN last night, and thought it might have been bullshit, or at least a complex fraud. Apparently, they're being pretty brazen about it working now... It still sounds a bit too good to be true, but if the bloody link will work you'll see a number of things that would indicate that they might actually have a wholly viable mechanism for getting cars to run on freaking water. Wow... New water-fuel technology appears to be viable... |

Dc0de has joined what we have started referring to as "the club." People we know who have received legal threats for saying true things in a public place. This seems to happen a lot to computer security people. In the United States, you're supposed to have a right to freedom of speech. This isn't just a matter of what the law technically says or means. As Rattle has pointed out before, freedom of speech is a core value in our society. It is a value that transcends what the law merely requires, providing a model for how a mature society addresses all sorts of conflicts: The appropriate way to respond to critics is within the realm of ideas and not within the realm of coersion. People who use the legal system to squash critics instead of appropriately addressing their criticism in print are operating in a manner that is out of sync with the core values of this nation. I hold this sort of behavior in very poor esteem. However, this happens all the time, so a more fundamental fix is required. The legal system should not allow itself to be used by wealthy parties as a weapon to coerce people who do not have the resources to defend themselves. This is fundamentally unjust. The legal system must be reformed. For a smart analysis of these issues see this paper about two other members of "the club," Billy and Virgil. dc0de wrote: Part of the presentation includes a slide that shows the Insider Attack Variables, including, Corporate environment and culture. Since the IDR's previous incident was caused by someone not performing their due diligence on 50 fraudulent companies, thereby allowing these companies to freely PURCHASE data from the IDR and commit fraud, I used their loss as an example... The company that I work for now is terminating me, and claiming that I have to sign the IDR's document, (that they negotiated as part of their settlement), and of course, another document, forbidding me to speak about this issue.
