WWF: Earth Day 2006
Topic: Science 9:36 am EDT, Apr 22, 2006

Since the first Earth Day in 1970 people around the world have sought to celebrate the planet through a variety of individual and community activities. But Earth Day is about more than observing the beauty and vitality of nature; it is also about renewing your commitment to saving our living planet.

Learn how WWF is committed to leading conservation efforts to save our planet and its species -- and what you can do -- to renew your commitment to the Earth.

When we were in school it was the in thing to care about the environment and it was stressed to children that everyone could make a difference......sadly this is not a focus anymore but it probably should be.

Dana Reeve, widow of Christopher Reeve, dies of lung cancer - Mar 7, 2006
Topic: Society 11:07 pm EST, Mar  7, 2006

WHITE PLAINS, New York(AP) -- Dana Reeve, who won worldwide admiration for her devotion to her "Superman" husband, Christopher Reeve, through his decade of near-total paralysis, has died of lung cancer at the age of 44.
...
Reeve had succeeded her husband as chair of the foundation, which funded research into spinal-cord paralysis cures. She announced in August that, while she wasn't a smoker, she had been diagnosed with lung cancer.
...
A year ago, she won a Mother of the Year award from the American Cancer Society. A society vice president, Dr. Michael Thun, said Reeve "has shown strength and courage in the face of tremendous adversity." Doctors say 1 in 5 women diagnosed with the disease never lit a cigarette.

There is definitely something in the water that celebrities are drinking. First Puckett, now Reeve? He was 45, she 44! He was an all-star athelete and she didn't even smoke!

Since when is 45 the new 85?

Sony BRAVIA - The Advert

Sending 250,000 multi-coloured 'superballs' bouncing down the streets of San Francisco may seem the strangest way to do this, but that's exactly what Danish director Nicolai Fuglsig did for the BRAVIA commercial in July this year.

This is old and has been discussed here before, but for some reason the main page isn't memed...

I love this commercial

MemeStreams

MemeStreams is yet anothe blog hosting server. It may not be as feature rich as Blogspot. But what I liked most there is their categorization, as well as the ability to see the posts in a specific category from all the members there. Here you are how they define themselves.

MemeStreams is a social web surfing tool that helps communities of people work together to find interesting content on the Internet. It allows you to maintain collections of recommendations for Internet content, and it employs state of the art content rating technology to sort through your friends' and colleagues' recommendations in search of information that matters to you.

As you may have noticed, they have a social network as well. Finally it is really interesting that people like Michael Lynn (Abaddon) and Billy Hoffman (Acidus) are having their blogs hosted there.

Wow I didn't realize Billy and Mike had their own wikipedia articles. Moving up in the world there boys.

Anti-abortion marchers think its their last march
Topic: Society 5:29 pm EST, Jan 24, 2006

Signs of the movement's rising confidence were everywhere: Gone, for the most part, were the grotesque photos of aborted fetuses. In their place were slick slogans, such as "Justice for All -- Born and Preborn," and a lineup of some of the country's most powerful people.

President Bush, calling in from Kansas, didn't mention Alito or Roe . He spoke generically of "a noble cause" and the need to protect "all who are weak and vulnerable, especially unborn children." But when Bush allowed that "we're making good progress," everybody knew that he was, ultimately, talking about Roe 's end.

When will people wake up? When their child is raped and then forced to carry and raise that child or when their sister dies because they are unable to carry a child to term. The scariest part of this article is the president weighing in.

CNN.com - Inmate, 75,says he's too old to execute - Jan 13, 2006
Topic: Miscellaneous 2:20 pm EST, Jan 14, 2006

SAN FRANCISCO, California (AP) -- California's oldest death row inmate -- a 75-year-old who is legally blind and nearly deaf -- is asking the U.S. Supreme Court to do something it has never done before: block an execution because of the condemned man's advanced age and infirmity.

Clarence Ray Allen's attorneys contend that executing a feeble old man amounts to cruel and unusual punishment banned by the U.S. Constitution.

Allen is set to die by injection Tuesday for ordering three slayings while behind bars for another murder. He has been on death row for more than 23 years.

"Don't do it! I'm too *OLD* to die!"

Wow you have to give them points for uniqueness and perserverance

Black sergeant was 'loyal Klansman'
Topic: Miscellaneous 8:37 pm EST, Jan 12, 2006

About 25 years ago, Ron Stallworth was asked to lead the Ku Klux Klan chapter in Colorado Springs.

Ron Stallworth carries his KKK membership card as a memento.
Problem was, the outgoing Klan leader didn't know that Stallworth is black.

This came across the mailing list and I thought others would find it interesting
