AlterNet: They Volunteered, Didn't They?
Topic: Miscellaneous 9:12 pm EDT, Sep 18, 2003

] Smart bombs and "surgical strikes" would ensure a
] soldier's quick return. State of the art equipment would
] keep our soldiers safe. Billions of dollars for the
] Department of Defense would ensure that the compensation
] of our men and women in uniform would match their
] sacrifice for their country.
]
] Two hundred and ninety-one deaths later, with the war in
] Iraq officially "over,' active duty military still have
] no dates set for their return home. Soldiers are dying
] due to shortages of supplies, like bulletproof vests. The
] Bush administration's proposed cut in combat pay came
] with a simultaneous call for the Iraqi resistance to
] "bring 'em on." Already inadequate services for veterans
] are suffering further cuts, making the return home
] scarcely safer than the tour of duty.
]
] In the eyes of many military families a contract has been
] breached, a promise has been broken. And these families
] are making sure that those who broke their trust are
] called to answer for their betrayal.

And we wonder why "incidents" in Iraq are increasing? They want to come home, and they've instead been sent off to New Vietnam.

Guardian Unlimited | Special reports | America's hidden battlefield toll
Topic: Miscellaneous 9:12 pm EDT, Sep 18, 2003

] The true scale of American casualties in Iraq is revealed
] today by new figures obtained by The Observer, which show
] that more than 6,000 American servicemen have been
] evacuated for medical reasons since the beginning of the
] war, including more than 1,500 American soldiers who have
] been wounded, many seriously.
]
] The figures will shock many Americans, who believe that
] casualties in the war in Iraq have been relatively light.
] Recent polls show that support for President George Bush
] and his administration's policy in Iraq has been
] slipping.
]
] The number of casualties will also increase pressure on
] Bush to share the burden of occupying Iraq with more
] nations. Attempts to broker an international alliance to
] pour more men and money into Iraq foundered yesterday
] when Colin Powell, the US Secretary of State, brusquely
] rejected a French proposal as 'totally unrealistic'.

What? You mean our goverment hasn't been releasing accurate numbers? Who knew.

U.S. refuses judge's order in Moussaoui trial
Topic: Current Events 9:45 pm EDT, Sep 10, 2003

] Tempting the judge presiding over the Zacarias Moussaoui
] trial to dismiss the case, federal prosecutors said
] Wednesday they will not cooperate with her latest order
] to permit two top al Qaeda captives to testify on
] Moussaoui's behalf.
]
] "The government cannot, consistent with the interests of
] national security, comply with the court's order,"
] prosecutors said in papers filed with U.S. District Judge
] Leonie Brinkema in Alexandria, Virginia.
]
] Moussaoui, 35, a French citizen of Moroccan descent and
] the lone U.S. defendant in connection with the September
] 11 terror plot, maintains that he had no role in the
] attacks, but admits belonging to al Qaeda, the Islamic
] terrorist group behind them.

Nice... Yea I know - Moussaoui is a self-professed piece-of-shit al Qaeda, but "innocent until proven guilty". And he should be allowed to call ANYONE as a witness. "interests of national security" my ass - the Bush administration is gonna play that card any time they don't want to cooperate or are feeling "holier that thou".

This judge deserves a medal for trying to be fair and unbiassed.

New Scientist - Modified yeast produces fully human proteins

] A cheap way to produce human proteins for therapeutic use
] may finally be possible thanks to a genetically modified

] availability of treatments relying on, for example,
] antibodies and human growth hormone, as well as new
] treatments.

Cool :)

Now when does this translate into me getting cheap human growth hormone and IGF-I?

Children are Finding Nemo Instead of Finding Jesus, and the Homos at Disney are to Blame!
Topic: Miscellaneous 8:35 am EDT, Aug 22, 2003

] Christian pastors here at Landover Baptist thought their
] tireless efforts to warn Americans about the carefully
] disguised homosexual agenda targeting toddlers through
] Disney cartoons was working. They thought that since
] President George W. Bush, a devout Christian who attends
] a Bible church regularly and believes in the same
] three-headed God (Father, Son, and flying side-kick, The
] Holy Ghost) took office, that Americans were finally
] waking up. Our pastors took for granted that Americans
] understood that Jesus is not above sending little
] children straight to Hell for watching cartoons. It
] wasn't until Pastor Deacon Fred heard that millions of
] American children were being lured like zombies in a
] trance to see the new Disney film, Finding Nemo, that he
] decided to speak out against it.
]
] "Walt Disney would be spinning in his grave if he knew
] his animation studios were full of giggling homosexuals,
] doodling and talking about silly colors and little
] fishies for their latest film," said Pastor Deacon Fred
] last Sunday. "But as we all know, Walt Disney never made
] it to Heaven. Although he hated Jews almost as much as
] the Apostle Paul did, he never took the time to accept
] Jesus Christ as his personal savior. So Mr. Disney is
] burning in Hell right now and God melted his eyes right
] out of his head.

I *love* Landover Baptist Church! One of the all-time greatest spoof sites I've seen.

Evil Dead - The Musical
Topic: Arts 8:49 am EDT, Aug 21, 2003

"All hell breaks loose in the deliciously brainy "Evil Dead 1&2:The Musical," adapted from Sam Raimi's seminal Evil Dead films. The musical, directed by Christopher Bond, written by George Reinblatt, and blessed by Evil Dead star Bruce Campbell himself, cranks the camp factor of the movies all the way up to "666."

SNIP

"The show must go on - particularly if it's opening night. Evil Dead 1 & 2: The Musical triumphed over the blackout gremlins Thursday night by moving the whole show outside and performing outside the Tranzac Club on Brunswick Ave. Lighting was by hand-held flashlights and as the sun finally went down, the headlights of a car. The zombies - and the audience - loved it."

SNIP

"Toronto Globe and Mail - August 16th - Where were you when the lights went out? "We saw a musical, Evil Dead, spill out of a theatre and right out on the street," Chris says. "It was really cool."

C'mon... you knew this HAD to happen!
