] Hundreds of thousands of Taiwanese have marched on their
] capital to protest Beijing's new law sanctioning the use
] of force if Taipei moves toward formal independence.

] China's annual session of parliament passed the
] anti-secession law on March 14. Beijing has claimed
] Taiwan as its own since their split at the end of the
] Chinese civil war in 1949.
]
] Thousands of tour buses from all over the island arrived
] in Taipei filled with protesters, who assembled in 10
] different areas -- each route representing one of the
] articles of the anti-secession law.
]
] The marchers then converged on the wide boulevard in
] front of the president's office. Police estimated the
] crowd at about a million, The Associated Press reported.
] Taiwan's population is 23 million.

] Protest supporters also staged demonstrations in Hong
] Kong, Los Angeles and Brussels, Belgium.

Jacqueline Mackie Paisley Passey: Oh, just let Terri Schiavo finish what she started already!
Topic: Current Events 8:39 pm EST, Mar 24, 2005

] In all the debate about "what Terri would have wanted"
] people seem to be forgetting that her vegetative state
] was initially caused by anorexia and bulimia.  She was
] TRYING to starve herself.  Let her finish.

Official reply: "Teehee!"

Coming soon: "If I only had a brain", the Terri Schiavo made for TV movie.

Jacqueline Mackie Paisley Passey: Oh, just let Terri Schiavo finish what she started already!

School Killer's Animated Terror - March 23, 2005
Topic: Current Events 12:31 am EST, Mar 24, 2005

] The Minnesota teenager responsible for Monday's high
] school shooting spree last year created a violent,
] blood-soaked video that included an animated character
] shooting four people and blowing up a police car before
] committing suicide, The Smoking Gun has learned. Using
] the alias "Regret," Jeff Weise, 16, last October posted
] online a 30-second animation entitled "Target Practice."
] Click here to view Weise's crudely animated Flash
] production. Weise posted a second short, "Clown," several
] weeks after uploading "Traget Practice" to a popular
] multimedia web site. The 50-second "Clown" ends with one
] character apparently being strangled by the clown.

Oh yeah, this guy seemed like a real stable character. He also had a LiveJournal at http://www.livejournal.com/users/weise/

The conclusion the court came to is that, based on medical testimony and Terri’s CAT scan, her cerebral cortex has basically turned to liquid. The cerebral cortex is the seat of all our higher brain functions. Without a cerebral cortex, it is impossible for a human being to experience thought, emotions, consciousness, pain, pleasure, or anything at all; nor, barring a miracle, is it possible for a patient lacking a cerebral cortex to recover.

MSNBC - No Secrets: Eyes on the CIA
Topic: Current Events 5:06 am EST, Feb 28, 2005

] Aviation obsessives with cameras and Internet connections
] have become a threat to cover stories established by the
] CIA to mask its undercover operations and personnel
] overseas. U.S. intel sources complain that "plane
] spotters” hobbyists who photograph airplanes landing or
] departing local airports and post the pix on the
] Internet” made it possible for CIA critics recently to
] assemble details of a clandestine transport system the
] agency set up to secretly move cargo and
] people ”including terrorist suspects” around the world.

This reminds me of a scene from the movie Broken Arrow where the presence of plane spotters nixes a plan to not disclose the loss of a B2 bomber.

NYT | Thomas Friedman: No Mullah Left Behind
Topic: Current Events 11:08 pm EST, Feb 13, 2005

] The Journal quoted Ali Ansari, an Iran specialist at the
] University of St. Andrews in Scotland, as saying that for
] 10 years analysts had been writing about Iran's need for
] economic reform. "In actual fact, the scenario is worse
] now," said Mr. Ansari. "They have all this money with the
] high oil price, and they don't need to do anything about
] reforming the economy." Indeed, The Journal added, the
] conservative mullahs are feeling even more emboldened to
] argue that with high oil prices, Iran doesn't need
] Western investment capital and should feel "free to
] pursue its nuclear power program without interference."

BBC | North Korea: We got nukes, phbttt
Topic: Current Events 3:25 pm EST, Feb 10, 2005

] Second. The US disclosed its attempt to topple the
] political system in the DPRK at any cost, threatening it
] with a nuclear stick. This compels us to take a measure
] to bolster its nuclear weapons arsenal in order to
] protect the ideology, system, freedom and democracy
] chosen by its people.
]
] It is the spirit of the Korean people true to the Songun
] politics to respond to good faith and the use of force in
] kind.
]
] We had already taken the resolute action of pulling out
] of the NPT and have manufactured nukes for self-defence
] to cope with the Bush administration's evermore
] undisguised policy to isolate and stifle the DPRK.
]
] Its nuclear weapons will remain nuclear deterrent for
] self-defence under any circumstances.

They have tested numerous missiles as well. If they do have a working device, its likely deliverable. Not good.

] of family members.

] item on the Web.

] The list covers operatives, potential collaborators and
