"Mankind must put an end to war, or war will put an end to mankind... War will exist until that distant day when the conscientious objector enjoys the same reputation and prestige that the warrior does today." -- John F. Kennedy

"Do you want an original and dynamic logo, designed at a reasonable price? "

I want to plug these folks too. They cleaned up the MemeFactory image used in the cafe press store (which will be open soon...). Whats more, they did it on a Saturday with no notice at a very good price. This is definitely a good place to turn for your business graphics needs.

Bush to Call for Fed NOC
Topic: Technology 8:21 pm EDT, Aug 31, 2002

The Bush administration has plans to create a centralized facility for collecting and examining security-related e-mail and data traffic and will push private network operators to expand their data-gathering initiatives, according to an unreleased draft of the plan.

...

Howard Schmidt, vice chairman of the CIPB, said the center would consolidate threat data from the country's collection end points, such as the FBI's National Infrastructure Protection Center, the Critical Infrastructure Assurance Office, the Department of Energy and commercial networks.

Private companies would also be encouraged to increase the amount of data collected and share it with the government. "Major companies generally report this information internally," Schmidt told eWeek. "We're looking for that to come back to a central location."

A Report on United States War Crimes Against Iraq to the Commission of Inquiry for the International War Crimes Tribunal
Topic: Politics and Law 10:00 pm EDT, Aug 30, 2002

"It has never happened in history that a nation that has won a war has been held accountable for atrocities committed in preparing for and waging that war. We intend to make this one different. What took place was the use of technological material to destroy a defenseless country. From 125,000 to 300,000 people were killed... We recognize our role in history is to bring the transgressors to justice." Ramsey Clark

Ramsey Clark served as U.S. Attorney General in the administration of Lyndon Johnson. He is the convener of the Commission of Inquiry and a human rights lawyer of world-wide respect. This report was given in New York, May 11, 1991.

X-RAY SPECS!
Topic: Technology 9:51 pm EDT, Aug 30, 2002

Well, here is a poorly designed website that actually appears to sell one of the phoney products they used to advertise in the back of "Boy's Life" magazine. Unfortunately its a little out of the reach of the average 12 year old's allowance. Now that they've accomplished this, I'm waiting on "Hover-Boards." With a pair of X-ray specs and a hover-board my life will be complete.

Danger: Sink hole ahead
Topic: Markets & Investing 9:38 pm EDT, Aug 30, 2002

Those leanings (Wall Street calls this investor and consumer sentiment) are bordering on lethal. "Not only is the market a ticking time bomb, but so is the global economy," says Jeff Morgan, whose main credentials are an e-mail account, a brain and the eyes to see what others can't. "I'm constantly amazed at how many people are in denial. And we sure don't need to dance with Iraq anytime soon. I don't want a self-fulfilling prophecy, but people had better get their finances in order real soon because the bottom is going to fall out just like a big sink hole."

Seventy-five little reasons to be terrified of the FISA court.
Topic: United States 12:36 am EDT, Aug 30, 2002

This week, a federal court of appeals declared that "democracies die behind closed doors" and demanded that Attorney General John Ashcroft open up the immigration hearings for suspects connected to Sept. 11 roundups. But wherever the courts open one door, Ashcroft and the Bush administration manage to close another. And so we find ourselves in peril of losing the right to search warrants granted by real judges in real courts, as the attorney general again attempts to drag the Constitution into dark caverns and windowless towers.

Bush Aides Say Iraq War Needs No Hill Vote
Topic: Politics and Law 12:48 pm EDT, Aug 28, 2002

This is an extremely frightening development in the United States of America:

...

Lawyers for President Bush have concluded he can launch an attack on Iraq without new approval from Congress, in part because they say permission remains in force from the 1991 resolution giving Bush's father authority to wage war in the Persian Gulf, according to administration officials.

...

"We don't want to be in the legal position of asking Congress to authorize the use of force when the president already has that full authority," said a senior administration official involved in setting the strategy. "We don't want, in getting a resolution, to have conceded that one was constitutionally necessary."

...

Inside the White House, a full-throated debate over some of these issues has been underway for some time. In particular, White House Counsel Alberto R. Gonzales had his deputy, Timothy E. Flanigan, develop the administration's legal position on questions surrounding a war with Iraq.

Officials said Gonzales told Bush earlier this month that he would not be legally bound to obtain approval for action against Iraq. In making this case, officials point first to the Constitution's designation of the president as commander-in-chief.

...

Although administration officials are adamant that no authorization is required, some have begun to argue internally that it might be desirable as a matter of politics and statesmanship.

"The legal question and the practical question may be very different," one administration official said. "There is a view that while there is not a legal necessity to seek anything further, as a matter of statesmanship and politics and practicality, it's necessary -- or at a minimum, strongly advisable -- to do it."

...

When you hear the "left wing zealots" say Bush may be our last President, think about more than one meaning, not just the obvious one. It is patently absurd that Iraq poses any threat to the United States.
