This page provides some explanation of how to use the search engine. Hopefully this feature will turn the site into something that you can use for everyday knowledge management tasks. Throw those interesting links in your memestream and dig them up later when you need them... We'll keep 'em warmed up and read to roll.

The State Quarters - Why are they so ugly? A slide show. By Carol Vinzant
Topic: Miscellaneous 12:11 am EDT, Aug 30, 2002

"For the first time in memory, states - not the U.S. Mint - are designing their own coins. The results are not encouraging. Most of the designs, usually chosen by a state commission appointed by the governor, are boring, timid, and cluttered - evidence of all that can go wrong when art is created by committee. They are also surprisingly revealing about the peculiar, parochial ways that states view themselves. "

Tech Keeps Tabs on School Kids
Topic: Miscellaneous 8:44 pm EDT, Aug 26, 2002

"Before little Suzy skips out the door swinging her Powerpuff Girls lunchbox, her parents can lock a Wherify GPS-enabled bracelet on her wrist that works like a personal LoJack, pinpointing her exact location as she walks to class. If she's tardy, her parents can jump on the Internet and check her coordinates using aerial or street maps. And if she runs into a strange man asking for help finding a lost kitty, she can press two buttons on the bulky device to dial 911. The bracelet also notifies the cops if someone tries to forcefully remove it. "

The things your television is telling you about the health and wellfare of your children are more important then the things your child is telling you about her need for independence or the things you might tell your child about taking care of herself on the street. This is because children are not people, they are things, and their welfare is more important then their feelings.

WAG THE GASSED DOG
Topic: Miscellaneous 6:16 pm EDT, Aug 21, 2002

Oh good grief guys. As this rubbish has already been recommended twice, let me play "Captain Obvious" for you. (Honestly, is this supposed to be a troll???)

1. Propaganda? The comment about "the US sinking to new lows trying to manufacture support for a war nobody but the oil companies wants (SIC)" obviously reveals a left wing political bias on the part of the poster. I assure you that many of the people who lost loved ones on September 11th want a war with Al Qaeda and they aren't oil companies.

2. There are people commenting here who think that the film was supposed to be of Iraq. Please actually read the articles before you accuse them of being propaganda.

3. The fact that your interpretation of Islamic law prohibits animal testing does not mean the videos are fake. Why do I have to explain things like this?

4. The interesting thing about the video is not the fact that "cute puppies" were gassed. The interesting thing about the video is the fact that the organization was attempting to develop chemical weapons. Any arguements about how many puppies the U.S. has killed completely miss the mark. Again, please read the articles in question before arguing that they are propaganda.

5. The fact that you didn't see any dogs like that when you visited a different Arab country thousands of miles away does not mean the videos are fake. Why do I have to explain things like this?

6. The fact that government psy-ops people work at CNN does not mean that the videos are fake. Why do I have to explain things like this?

7. CNN and other news organizations are motivated by money. Sensationalistic footage of cute doggies getting gassed by bad guys is the sort of thing lots of people will pay to see. The motivation here is not propaganda. The motivation is profit. You are seeing this video because you like to see this kind of stuff.

8. CNN refused to show footage of Daniel Pearl getting his head chopped off. This is because even CNN has standards of behavior. If they were "soley motivated by greed" or "soley motivated by the manufacture of consent for a war" I assure you that you would have seen this footage. Left wing absolutisms are stupid.

9. Propaganda often distorts, but it rarely lies. The propaganda is in what facts are shown and what facts are not shown, rather than in what is true and what is false. Read Chomsky, the left's own ring leader, who I presume is held in high esteem by the people who built this website.

It used to be the case that any amount of idiocy on the internet was taken as real and true fact as long as it was right wing in orientation or it had to do with aliens from outer space. Now it is the case that any amount of idiocy on the internet is taken as real and true fact as long as it is left wing in perspective. I'm really getting sick of it. I hope this is just another phase.

"Cox customers can turn to a designated channel, without cost, to view content developed by a host of advertisers, including Kraft, Coca-Cola, Sony Music Entertainment's Epic Records and Volvo North America. Cox plans to test the service for six months. "

Oh lord... The "advertisement network." I think there was a joke about this on "You can't do that on Television" many years ago...
