"To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded." - Ralph Waldo Emerson

5-Year-Old Cuffed, Arrested in Florida
Topic: Society 11:02 am EST, Mar 21, 2005

] A 5-year-old girl was arrested, cuffed and put in back of
] a police cruiser after an outburst at school where she
] threw books and boxes, kicked a teacher in the shins,
] smashed a candy dish, hit an assistant principal in the
] stomach and drew on the walls.
]
]
]
] The students were counting jelly beans as part of a math
] exercise at Fairmount Park Elementary School when the
] little girl began acting silly. That's when her teacher
] took away her jelly beans, outraging the child.
]
]
]
] Minutes later, the 40-pound girl was in the back of a
] police cruiser, under arrest for battery. Her hands were
] bound with plastic ties, her ankles in handcuffs.

Who in their right mind would call the cops to a 5 year old anyway?

Congress Condemns Schiavo to Undeath!
Topic: Politics and Law 10:59 am EST, Mar 21, 2005

I watched the debate. I could not believe how some members of congress struggled with the word AUTONOMOUS. Half looked like they were reading something - and couldn't read.

It was so very political. They were so transparent. Our country is clearly in trouble.

The State | 03/09/2005 | Bankruptcy bill another blow to safety net
Topic: Politics and Law 2:10 am EST, Mar 15, 2005

] The bill would make it much harder for families in
] distress to write off their debts and make a fresh start.
] Instead, many debtors would find themselves on an endless
] treadmill of payments.
]
] The credit card companies say this is needed because
] people have been abusing the bankruptcy law, borrowing
] irresponsibly and walking away from debts. The facts say
] otherwise.
]
] A vast majority of personal bankruptcies in the United
] States are the result of severe misfortune.
One recent
] study found that more than half of bankruptcies are the
] result of medical emergencies. The rest are
] overwhelmingly the result either of job loss or of
] divorce.

Paul Krugman was on the daily show railing about this bankruptcy bill, which we feels has not received adequate press coverage.

I really think there has almost been an intentional HUSH of the coverage of this bill!
