Top Kill, fail.
Topic: Current Events 9:14 am EDT, May 30, 2010

Decius: I hope this post looks silly in 24 hours.

The good news is that your post doesn't look silly.

Three attempts to pump mud and 16 tries to stuff solid material into a breached Gulf of Mexico oil well failed to stop the flow, top BP executives said Saturday, and engineers and executives with the oil giant have decided to "move on to the next option."

That's the bad news.

The next option is to inject lawyers and lobbyists into the breached blowout preventer until a compromise is reached with the oil well.

Top Kill, fail.

Abuse of power, the 'feeling out' of how easy it might be to ban books her church didn't approve of...stretching the truth...saying things that make me think she really hates due process and the constitution? Oh boy. I can't figure this one out.
Please don't think all women support her. I know for a fact that is not true. I don't even know one that does.

Dutch news - 'Dutch Spy Recalled from Iran on US Attack Plan'
Topic: Current Events 10:51 pm EDT, Aug 31, 2008

AMSTERDAM, 30/08/08 - The Dutch AIVD secret service has had an ultra-secret operation underway in Iran in recent years. This has been halted in connection with plans for a US attack on Iran, newspaper De Telegraaf reported Friday.

The "ultra-secret operation" had as its aim infiltration and sabotage of the weapons industry in the Islamic republic. "The operation, described as extremely successful, was halted recently in connection with plans for an impending US air attack on Iraq. Along with this, targets would also be bombed which were connected with the Dutch espionage action," writes the Netherlands' biggest newspaper.

"One of the agents involved, who was able to infiltrate the Iranian industry under the supervision of the AIVD, was recently recalled because the US was thought to be making a decision within weeks to attack Iran with unmanned aircraft. Among the potential targets were said to be not only nuclear plants, but also military installations that have been brought to light partly by the agency of the AIVD," according to the newspaper.

"Information from the AIVD operation has in recent years been shared with the American CIA secret service," the paper continued. "Various supplies could also be sabotaged and stopped. These were parts for missiles and launching equipment."

The article was written by Joost de Haas, known for his good contacts in the intelligence world. Earlier, he got hold of an AIVD report which suggested that corrupt powers within Dutch police corps supplied weapons to criminals to liquidate other criminals.

113 new cases of EBOLA reported in Uganda
Topic: Current Events 4:20 am EST, Dec 11, 2007

"KAMPALA (Reuters) - Uganda has 113 suspected cases of a new strain of Ebola fever that has killed 29 people, officials said on Monday, vowing to take the necessary steps to stop the virus spreading.

Ugandans fear the outbreak could mushroom into a major epidemic affecting the capital Kampala.

"We have an Ebola lab in Entebbe (near Uganda's international airport) where we are testing samples we took from suspected cases," Health Ministry spokesman Paul Kabwa said.

Some banks and supermarkets in the city issued their staff with protective rubber gloves for handling money they feared could be contaminated with the virus, which often causes victims to bleed to death through ears, eyes and other orifices.

Islamists Damage/Deface Ancient Rock Carving of Buddha
Topic: Current Events 2:02 am EDT, Oct 12, 2007

Oh, I just can't HELP it, this kind of thing just BURNS me up.

This is so ugly, so spiteful, so competitive. If your idea of religion can't accept questions, and feels it has to destroy the treasures, the sacred icons and art of others, man..you're just psycho.

"Islamist radicals in Pakistan have attempted to destroy an ancient carving of Buddha by drilling holes in the rock and filling them with dynamite.

The Buddha is thought to date from the seventh century AD

The 23ft high image was damaged during the attack, which brought back memories of the Taliban's destruction six years ago of the giant Buddhas at Bamiyan, in neighbouring Afghanistan.

The Buddha, in the Swat district of north-west Pakistan, is thought to date from the seventh century AD and was considered the largest in Asia, after the two Bamiyan Buddhas."

Venezuela replaces opposition TV with state network| Reuters
Topic: Current Events 9:24 pm EDT, May 28, 2007

Venezuela shut down an opposition television channel on Monday and replaced it with one promoting President Hugo Chavez's self-proclaimed socialist revolution in a move widely criticized as a threat to democracy.

"This has exposed the abusive, arbitrary and autocratic nature of Chavez's government, a government that fears free thought, that fears opinion and fears criticism," said Marcel Granier, chief of RCTV, the country's oldest broadcaster.

Reality check time for leftie contrarians who think Chavez is cool for sticking it to the man, whats going on down there is actually fucked up.

Of course, the rationalizations have already begun. Apparently when thousands of people hit the streets to protest and end up in clashes with police over views we support, its because the people are being denied a voice and the police are involved in a conspiracy with the evil men who control the world, but when thousands of people hit the streets to protest and end up in clashes with police over views we don't support, its because they've been manipulated by millionaires and the police were forced to respond because the protestors were violent.

Criminal charges dropped in marketing stunt - The Boston Globe
Topic: Current Events 3:09 pm EDT, May 13, 2007

Two local artists whose guerrilla marketing stunt caused a day of bomb scares in the Boston region -- and then fueled public outrage by appearing to make light of the incident -- apologized in court yesterday as prosecutors dropped the criminal charges against them.

Fueled public outrage?

Michael Flanagan, president of the MBTA Police Association, said he was angry with the settlement.

"I'm upset we had to use so many resources and dedicated so much time and energy to these kids who were just playing around and obviously amused by their actions," he said.

Whose fault is that?
