WikiScanner on the Colbert Report
Topic: Miscellaneous 11:31 pm EDT, Aug 26, 2007

Acidus had a project mentioned offhandedly on the Daily Show a few months ago but Virgil has seriously raised the bar by actually getting his picture on the Colbert report! We now have a new standard for leetness around here. If you haven't been personally denounced by Steven Colbert, you just aren't that important...

Yesterday the new Gerhard Richter glass window was unveiled at the Cologne Cathedral. It looks like a group of pixels and is stunning to look at.

This is neat.

The Bank of Asia is a very famous building in Bangkok. It was made way back in 1985, and it's robotic appearance is just a symbol of the modernization of banking. It also has the ability to transform into a mega-robot.

Man I wish I had see this when I was there.

U: OK, this site is down, so try this one instead...

New Linux Desktop Porn
Topic: Miscellaneous 11:17 am EST, Feb 13, 2006

Here's four videos which, although containing no actual nudity or sex of any kind, is basically, porn. You will drool.

If you use Linux, and particularly if you use Gnome, the URL links to four videos you want to see. These videos demo the new XGL code that Novell is bringing to Linux, which is part of the technology that is the reason Microsoft is so hot and bothered to get Vista's new interface into the eyes of the press.

Since most users judge an operating system by the eyecandy of it's desktop, rather than it's history of security or reliability, this stuff is going to make XP's interface look like pre-2000 crapware.

This will be a very good year for Linux eye-candy.

Fight Club trailer as a romantic comedy
Topic: Miscellaneous 10:54 am EST, Feb 13, 2006

Someone has re-cut Fight Club as a romantic comedy. It turns out that practically any weighty or horrific film can be re-cut as a romantic comedy with enough jaunty "Meet so-and-so!" voice-over and uptempo brass-band background music.

Ok, the next time I do something klutzy, I won't feel so bad....because I will know that it could have been WAY worse.

Happy New Year, everyone!

Want some advice for 2006? Well, look no further. Illegal Art placed suggestion boxes in California and New York and invited passers-by to offer a word (or two) of guidance.

A selection:

NEVER give a gun to a duck

Fish closer to the shore

Listen to some old school PUNK ROCK

This is awesome

Driving Habits
Topic: Miscellaneous 1:13 pm EST, Nov 28, 2005

What a concept! When you have to drive around lots of pedestrians and other vehicles in chaos you learn to drive without hitting other people and cars. Which explains why those of us who can pay attention to other vehicles around them are much better drivers. Then again, I can't say that -- when I'm flying, I am aware of *nothing* behind me. Then again, when you are the fastest car on the road, you don't. Because the police are the only ones who are faster and they will let you know when they get there with the siren.

But I stand firm by my principles -- the speed limit should be replaced by the traffic speed advisory signs like you see for on- and off-ramps. I know of one ramp in my own city I've pulled at 80MPH (without loosing control, omg) which is marked as a 45MPH ramp. Yes, I've merged into traffic speeding above the limit! What a concept! I've _accelerated_ on the on-ramp, merging in at the speed limit! It's called an acceleration lane for a reason.

I recognize that the article mostly talks about slower speed (50 MPH and down) driving in cities, as opposed to low-flight as evidenced by the AutoBahns. In a situation like the AutoBahn, it does make sense to have a clear road, with clearly defined lanes, etc. Driving at 80+ is much different than driving at 50MPH and down. Believe me, I've driven in the northern territories much more than most people do.

A 15-year-old girl in Quebec's Saguenay region is believed to have died as a result of an allergic reaction to her boyfriend's kiss.

Officials said she did not consume the nuts, but they believe she had a reaction to kissing her boyfriend, who had eaten peanut butter.
