] recall election.(AP Photo/Rich Pedroncelli)

I've been meaning to comment about the recall election today. Then I saw this picture... Wow.

I've met Dee Snider, somewhat recently too. I have nothing against Dee at all. I'm down with Twisted Sister. I liked Strangeland. Dee is another Jersey boy. We cool.. But, this just is not right. Something just isn't right. Its all gotten just a little to surreal. What next? What did I miss? (I only caught a chunk of this in a replay) Will the Beasty Boys come out? Break into Fight for your Right to Party. How very east coast it would all be.. Arnold rocking the SG.. Trying to anyway.

Well, here we go! Let the vote counting begin! Lets see how fucked up this election really is..

Music Legend Johnny Cash Dies at 71
Topic: Music 11:45 am EDT, Sep 12, 2003

"Johnny died due to complications from diabetes, which resulted in respiratory failure," Cash's manager, Lou Robin, said in a statement issued by Baptist Hospital in Nashville.

One very interesting tidbit that was on NPR this morning, but I can't find references of on Google yet, is the statement that while in the Air Force, Johnny Cash was a codebreaker. This would make Johnny the Alpha-Geek, and most beloved, as the original codebreaking Man in Black.

The following whitespace is for Johnny Cash:

] In April, the legendary Pixies will reunite for the first
] time in over a decade. The notoriously quarrelsome
] quartet have buried the hatchet, clearing the way for all
] four original members to hop onstage together for a world
] tour, according to a spokesperson for the band.

Yes! I have been waiting for a Pixies reunion for soooo long..

Frank Black said in an interview a few months ago that the idea was being considered.. Looks like its happening.

I caught a few parts of the VMA's here and there.. A minute or two at a time. And boy did everything I saw suck. Badly. Neal Pollack's write-up of this event, seems to be about as inline with my take of what I saw as I'm likely to find. Its a perfect reference for my random ramblings..

] Chris Rock appears and does a stand-up act that's funnier than
] anything I'm writing here.

Which was funny as hell. Really.. I was thinking at this point, that I might actually sit and watch some of this crap. You know, like give it a chance and all that. Of course, now I know that it was only because I was enjoying the shit talk.. Granted, I was ranting at the time about how Rock was lame for the Eminem worship/lack-of-shit-talking. With Eminem's recent dis to Weird Al, he really deserved to get some shit for that, at the VMAs, specifically. In fact, with the benefit of hind sight, I think something along the lines of a public apology to Weird Al, and then them taking the stage together, at the VMAs, might just have been the only way that dude could have gotten back some cred with me.

Fuck Eminem, really. The Weird Al thing.. Thats all it took for me. ...and the self important bullshit he has going on. His Legacy. Phbbtttt. I'm still pissed about that!

Anyway, the VMA's lost me the first time right about here:

] Then high-priced NBA chattel LeBron
] James comes out, shills for Sprite, and drools over Ashanti. They
] gave the best hip-hop video award to Elliott, in a true stunner.

I think about 20 seconds into the dude talking about how rad Sprite was, I was out the fucking door. Hell, I all remember of what I saw of the pre-show was people pumping something.. There is a threshold for how much you can take..

Walk back in a few minutes later to:

] Good Charlotte, you are so not punk rock! You think you're so
] hot with your red Mohawks and your backward baseball caps and
] your lame tattoos! But you suck, Good Charlotte! A real punk-
] rock band does not beat-box into the microphone! Oh, my, you
] destroyed your drum set and kicked over the amps! How
] dangerous! Like you had to pay for them.

Oh yeah, I couldn't have put it better. Geez. Truly crap. As a fan of punk, and music in general, and not a 12-14 year old, this is well.. well.. almost, but not quite culturally offensive. Just really, really, really fucking bad. Good Charlotte? They got "Good" in their name? The word "Good" shouldn't be within 10 words of a mention of this band, otherwise it will cause a buffer overflow in English or something.. I donno.

] "Good Charlotte," says Chris Rock. "More like a mediocre Green
] Day." Thank you, Chris Rock.

Oh, my, Jah! Chris Rock is providing the voice of reason here. Thats scary.

Next thing I walked in on was this:

] The surviving members of Run DMC (did I
] just write that phrase?) award the best rap... [ Read More (0.4k in body) ]

T-spigot now has CDs selling on Amazon. These are some friends of mine from the bay area. Frequently featured on somafm. The "Trip to Booker" track has samples I gave them from a whacky indy film that our tivo grabbed one night. If you like the stuff on somafm, you should buy this CD.

Eminem says 'no' to Weird Al
Topic: Music 4:34 am EDT, May 10, 2003

] "What we heard back from him (Rosenberg) was that Eminem
] was fine with me having the parody on my album but said
] he was afraid that a Weird Al video might detract from
] his legacy, that it would somehow make people take him
] less seriously as an important hip-hop artist," Yankovic
] said.
]
] Yankovic said even though he didn't get to make the
] video, he's grateful Eminem let him use the song in the
] first place. "I'm grateful to Eminem; he at least let me
] put it on the album," Yankovic said. “I have to say I'm
] extremely disappointed at the same time; frankly, this
] was going to be the best video that I've ever done."

Ok.. Thats it! Any cool factor capitol Eminem had is gone now. You don't dis Weird Al. You just don't. Its not allowed. Who was the last person to do that? Coolio? Where is his career now? The shitter. That's where. Concidence? You'd like to think so..

Even Kurdt Cobain, who was an unhappy-with-any-attention-manic-wuss, said he only realised he had an effect on music when Weird Al took on Nirvana.

This guy clearly takes himself a little too seriously. What was the last thing Eminem had all over MTV? That video with all the live concert footage, and the self-important-ego-overload thrust? His legacy? Look at the greats.. OD, blow your brains out, get shot by a fan, plane crash, etc.. All easy things to arrange. Just do something that ends tragic, when you are still young, in your prime, and in theory still have so much to offer the world with your art.. Its a good formula for a legacy. Tested and proven. Silver bullet.
