Topic: Politics and Law 10:36 am EST, Nov  6, 2004

It's not a big secret that I've spent the last 8 months working first for John Kerry for President then for Kerry-Edwards 2004. I wanted to post a thank you to everyone that supported us. This was my first political campaign of any sort. And while the ups were awesome (post super-tuesday) and the lows sucked (wednesday, Nov 3rd, at 5am) I wouldn't give up this experiance for anything. Our campaign showed that internet and politics are here to stay.

This campaign isn't John Kerry's loss as much as George Bush's win. We hit all of our numbers. We hit all of our targets, we motivated our base and got out a large part of the vote (yes I'm still bitter over the 3M 18-25'ers that registered but didn't vote). We got half the popular vote (or something reasonably close to it). They didn't blow our doors off and wrt to the EC it came down to 150k votes in OH. In a race of over 100M votes that's close to 0.1%. A very tight race indeed.

There's gonna be a shake up in the democratic party. (The -thunk- sound wednesday morning was all the power leaving the democratic party.) There will be a lot of introspection over the next year. Hopefully we can get our base together and draw strength from what we've lost this election season. I'm still a democrat. I still believe in the positive power of the federal goverment. I think health care should be available to everyone. I think that we should encourage jobs to stay in the united states. And most importantly I believe the goverment should encourage scientists and researchers to push the envelope in their fields, because more knowledge isn't a bad thing.

Yes I'm scared about our future, and I hope President Bush keeps his promise (again) to unite the country. But I'm done crying and attending "this sucks" parties. We can buck up. We will win. Fuck that guy.
