An Act of the Imagination: a mystery in two acts

an act of the imagination tabblo

The British Players performed Bernard Slade's play An Act of the Imagination: a mystery in two acts. Someone let me run the sound board for the play so I took shots from my little perch.

Here's a link to one of the reviews: http://www.showbizradio.net/2008/04/11/review-bp-an-act-of-the-imagination/

Kurt Vonnegut Dies at 84 - washingtonpost.com
Topic: Arts 7:19 am EDT, Apr 12, 2007

Kurt Vonnegut, the satirical novelist who captured the absurdity of war and questioned the advances of science in darkly humorous works such as "Slaughterhouse-Five" and "Cat's Cradle," died Wednesday. He was 84.

Vonnegut remains one of my favorite authors. Uniquely american. He will be missed.

This song goes out to...
Topic: Arts 2:18 pm EST, Jan 17, 2007

Your sister is wrong. It's totally not a country music song. Even in the manner you sang it:

Don’t go back to Rockvillllllllllllllle
Don’t go back to Rockvillllllllllllllle
Don’t go back to Rockvillllllllllllllle

(beat)

And waste another year

And to my oriental homie in D.C:

Josie's on a vacation far away
Come around and talk it over
So many things that I'd like to say
You know I like my girls a little bit older
I just wanna use your love tonight
I don't wanna lose your love tonight

hehehe

Thomas Pynchon to release new novel December 5th, 2006.
Topic: Arts 3:41 pm EDT, Aug 11, 2006

The long wait could be over for Thomas Pynchon fans. His first novel in nearly a decade is coming out in the US on December 5.

But the release, as with so much else about the elusive author of contemporary classics such as The Crying of Lot 49 and Gravity's Rainbow, is shrouded in mystery. Since the 1997 release of Mason & Dixon, a characteristically broad novel which followed the travails of two 18th-century astronomers charting the disputed borderline between Pennsylvania and Maryland, new writings by Pynchon have been limited to the occasional review or essay, such as his introduction for a reissue of George Orwell's 1984. He has, of course, continued to shun the media and avoid photographers, though he has turned up twice on The Simpsons, appearing in one episode with a bag over his head.

An Inconvenient Truth
Topic: Arts 1:12 pm EDT, Jun  4, 2006

Okay I went to see Al Gore's movie on opening night. I was great. Yes it's a slide show. Is this Vice President Gore's salvo to become a comeback-nixon? Well watch the movie for yourself and see if your opinion doesn't change about the man.

The data shouldn't be shocking to anyone at this point. If the data shocks you, go watch the movie again until the data and the graphs really sink in. If the movie shocks you bring your friends. If the movie shocks you bring your parents.

Data points that were omitted that I wish were included:
- atmospheric CO2 vs human population
- reflectivity of atmosphere vs airborne particulate flux
- % of C trapped in land, sea, air, mantle
- tons fossil fuel consumed vs year (log graph please)

Red Bull Music Academy :: TUTORS

The art of producing presented by RED BULL.

I thought this would be some faker marketing explotation. Shit it still might be, but they do get the best of the best to do their lecturing. Check out the interview w/ Madlib (hosted by Egon) or Prince Paul or Bob Moog or David Matthews (not the one that sucks)... Pissed you can't see the interviews w/ Peanut Butter Wolf or X-Ecutioners.

Cuts. Breaks. History.

Friends, Buzz & Click 3PO is here! - Nashville Events

Anyone who doesn't have plans for this Saturday needs to come out and experience the joy and wonder that is Nashville's only annual electronic music showcase! We've given administrative duties to Buzz and Click over to Nashville's best radio station (91.1WRVU) and they've honored us with another great year of music running the gamut from melodic electronica to experimental noise and everything in between! There's a great lineup this year, including appearances from at least 2/3 of Venus Hum, Let's Say Baltimore, and Jensen Sportag. Huh? Oh, yeah - Logickal is definitely blowing it up as well.

It's all happening Saturday - Guy Fawkes Day (November 5th in case ya didn't know) and it all starts at 8pm. It can all be had for a measly $5 (for 10 acts!) that goes to benefit WRVU (That means that you might also want to think about buying CDs from the artists...). You can follow the link below to read what the Scene had to say about it, and take a gander at the full lineup.

Hope to see a bunch of ya there!

-EDIT-

I should add for the record that it's happening at The 5 Spot. Direction are here

Songs for Cassavetes (2001)
Topic: Arts 7:38 pm EDT, Sep  3, 2005

This is a movie about the indie music scene from abouty three-four different areas... washington dc, Los Angeles, SF, and the Portland-Seatle thing. It's a good movie, there's lots of good music on it.

The thing that's killing me about it is how much is just bands on the road in a car driving around doing shows. I'm staring at $3.60/ga gas.

Are the days of kick ass shows limited? Or am I just gonna know more and more about the local DC music scene? Are the days of touring around with the band making and just enough money to break even and having a good time over?

I hope not. Fuck yeah, punk rock.

NIKE SB * SUMMER EAST COAST TOUR
Topic: Arts 1:08 pm EDT, Jun 29, 2005

Apperently Nike respects Minor Threat just enough to steal from them.

Because Nike doesn't have enough balls I've decided to host a copy of Nike's appology.

Someone at adrants created a side-by-side of the MT album and the Nike ad.

I hated Nike before because of what they do to chinese people, now I just don't respect them.

Dischord has expresed their anger.
