I don't know how or why, but I think the new set made the daily show with jon stewart harder hitting. I'm not complaining since neither FNC, MSNBC, or CNN seem to cover the news anymore... just some fucked up marketing friendly celebrity chasing-true crime retelling-fear mongering OxyClean shill. Who would have thought that a guy from New Jersey would become a better interviewer and hold his guests more accountable than say... Tim Russert, Larry King or Mario van Peebles. Jon's coverage of the Valarie Plame / Karl Rove scuttlebug has been the most fair, most transperent, most insightful coverage of the whole mess. I believe that the Plame case highlights this administration's contempt for the media (... and consequently the american people) and exposes the lengths the WH will go to distort reality [0] [1] [2] [3]. --timball ps) Apperently there are no less than 39 John Stewart's in imdb. So dropping the ``h'' was probably a good move, branding wise. Comedy Central - Shows - The Daily Show |

Newsweek: Rove gave Time reporter OK to testify |

Top presidential adviser Karl Rove was the anonymous source who released a Time reporter from his promise of confidentiality, allowing the journalist to avoid jail, Newsweek says. In a story published today, Newsweek reveals more details about the celebrated case stemming from the leak of an undercover CIA agent's name in 2003. The publication of Valerie Plame's name by Chicago Sun-Times syndicated columnist Robert Novak set off an investigation because it's a crime to knowingly identify an undercover CIA official.
This story keeps getting better... I watched none of the sunday shows so I feel quite blind right now. Newsweek: Rove gave Time reporter OK to testify |

Bombs in subways. Bomb in buses. All details fuzzy. Story obviously being managed. WikiNews is on it. Here is a Google News link. Here is one particular disturbing pic of some people trapped in the underground in a station filled with smoke. People in London are saying on IRC that cell phones are not working. The original BBC story on the explosions said it was an electrical explosion. They recently changed the story's lead to say there was a bomb on both a bus and the underground. It is ironic that in the first hours after the WTC bombing, it was believed to be a transformer explosion. News stations are now saying it was definitely a coordinated attack. Very little information is being released right now. It is very clear big shit is going down. Early picture of one bus. At least 20 said dead. Reports of two other bus explosions. Another bus explosion pic. European markets plummeting. The London Police Commissioner has asked the media not to speculate. I feel safe making the assumption that this is a terrorist attack, I'll leave it at that for now. If you work in NYC, I suggest that you wait till noon to go to work. Blair just gave a statement. Its officially terrorism. For those picking up on this as they wake up, here is a timeline of events so far. I don't have cable where I live. grr.. London Terror Attack - 7/7 |

Thank you shannon for giving passes to the show in philly. It rocked. I particularly enjoyed the JayZ + Linkin Park show. Not that I like JayZ or Linkin Park particularly... it was just the specticle. Other bits of note: * Sarah McLachlan did an extremely moving set, but when does she not? * Natalie Portman had a ultra short buzz cut. * As much as I didn't want to admit it Dave Matthews puts on a pretty good show. * Black Eyed Peas rocked it. * And the drummer from Def Leppard (still) only has one arm. But the whole point of the shows is to raise awareness during the G8 summit about the plight of extreme poverity. Bono thinks he can cure it with music. I was pretty sceptical of the whole idea, but after seeing 1M people in philly all jamming... maybe, just maybe, it sinked in to a some. And some is a start, because the problem is pretty bad. Raising awareness for the G8 summit and creating a forum to let world leaders know that there is global support for this cause is a good start. Listen to me... getting all soft on those damn poor people. LIVE 8 – The Long Walk to Justice |
