I hate blogs. But I like the washington post and I like David Ignatius and Fareed Zakaria. PostGlobal is a good comprimise.

Topic: Miscellaneous 4:29 pm EDT, Sep  5, 2006

I have a blackberry.
I have a mac.

PocketMac is a program that lets me sync both of those things. It's a PITA to uninstall. This url teaches you the tricks. Basically you have to delete the following things:

/Applications/PocketMac
/Library/PocketMac
/Library/Application Support/PocketMac
~/Library/Preferences/PocketMac.plist
~/Library/Preferences/Pocket Excel Reader.plist
~/Library/Preferences/PMSystemReport.plist
~/Library/Preferences/CabExtractor.plist

Reboot.

Thomas Pynchon to release new novel December 5th, 2006.
Topic: Arts 3:41 pm EDT, Aug 11, 2006

The long wait could be over for Thomas Pynchon fans. His first novel in nearly a decade is coming out in the US on December 5.

But the release, as with so much else about the elusive author of contemporary classics such as The Crying of Lot 49 and Gravity's Rainbow, is shrouded in mystery. Since the 1997 release of Mason & Dixon, a characteristically broad novel which followed the travails of two 18th-century astronomers charting the disputed borderline between Pennsylvania and Maryland, new writings by Pynchon have been limited to the occasional review or essay, such as his introduction for a reissue of George Orwell's 1984. He has, of course, continued to shun the media and avoid photographers, though he has turned up twice on The Simpsons, appearing in one episode with a bag over his head.

DHS | Department of Homeland Security | Statement by Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff Announcing a Change to the Nation’s Threat Level for the Aviation Sector
Topic: War on Terrorism 7:55 am EDT, Aug 10, 2006

The Department of Homeland Security is taking immediate steps to increase security measures in the aviation sector in coordination with heightened security precautions in the United Kingdom. Over the last few hours, British authorities have arrested a significant number of extremists engaged in a substantial plot to destroy multiple passenger aircraft flying from the United Kingdom to the United States. Currently, there is no indication, however, of plotting within the United States. We believe that these arrests have significantly disrupted the threat, but we cannot be sure that the threat has been entirely eliminated or the plot completely thwarted.

For that reason, the United States Government has raised the nation’s threat level to Severe, or Red, for commercial flights originating in the United Kingdom bound for the United States. This adjustment reflects the Critical, or highest, alert level that has been implemented in the United Kingdom. To defend further against any remaining threat from this plot, we will also raise the threat level to High, or Orange, for all commercial aviation operating in or destined for the United States. Consistent with these higher threat levels, the Transportation Security Administration is coordinating with federal partners, airport authorities and commercial airlines on expanding the intensity of existing security requirements. Due to the nature of the threat revealed by this investigation, we are prohibiting any liquids, including beverages, hair gels, and lotions from being carried on the airplane. This determination will be constantly evaluated and updated when circumstances warrant. These changes will take effect at 4:00 AM local time across the country. Travelers should also anticipate additional security measures within the airport and at screening checkpoints.

We are at condition red people. Please no liquids on flights.

Elect Daniel 'The Wig Man' Vovak For United States Senator In Maryland, Republican 2006

Maryland's Ugly Flag

POSITION OF DANIEL R. VOVAK:
"As a lover of the arts, I encourage Maryland to redesign its flag. I will encourage art students to create a completely new design for our State flag, with a full-paid college scholarship to the student who wins the contest. View State flags. You will immediately find Maryland's flag to be the ugliest flag in America. In fact, after further study, I have concluded Maryland has the ugliest flag in the world. View world flags.

I was just saying to myself, "if I were to run a guy for the Senate what issue would catipult him into the chamber?" It would need to be haughty and high-handed, a bit pompous to be sure. Oh I know! Lets focus on crap and not anything that's important to the community.

FIPS-140-2 certification is required for cryptographic products used by agencies for unclassified but sensitive information. OpenSSL is an open-source version of Secure Sockets Layer encryption that can be used by browsers and other programs to securely exchange data.

OpenSSL loses it's FIPS certification.
