Topic: Current Events 2:06 pm EST, Nov  7, 2006

Reasons to vote:

1) Iraq

2) Fear is not motive, it's a flavor enhancer (and now trans-fat free).

3) Your [I Voted] sticker is your ticket into my kegger.

4) Yelling at FNC doesn't actually accomplish anything.

5) Everytime a vote is supressed Lee Atwater eats another baby.

6) Democracy is only for the people that show up.

7) The time spent in the voting booth will be time not spend huffing glue.

8) All your base.

9) You goto vote w/ the electorate you have, not the electorate you want.

10) Everyone that doesn't vote gets a dick cheney facial.

Medicaid Wants Citizenship Proof for Infant Care - New York Times
Topic: Miscellaneous 11:01 am EST, Nov  4, 2006

WASHINGTON, Nov. 2 — Under a new federal policy, children born in the United States to illegal immigrants with low incomes will no longer be automatically entitled to health insurance through Medicaid, Bush administration officials said Thursday.

Doctors and hospitals said the policy change would make it more difficult for such infants, who are United States citizens, to obtain health care needed in the first year of life.

Illegal immigrants are generally barred from Medicaid but can get coverage for treatment of emergency medical conditions, including labor and delivery.

In the past, once a woman received emergency care under Medicaid for the birth of a baby, the child was deemed eligible for coverage as well, and states had to cover the children for one year from the date of birth.

Under the new policy, an application must be filed for the child, and the parents must provide documents to prove the child’s citizenship.

The documentation requirements took effect in July, but some states have been slow to enforce them, and many doctors are only now becoming aware of the effects on newborns.

Obtaining a birth certificate can take weeks in some states, doctors said. Moreover, they said, illegal immigrant parents may be reluctant to go to a state welfare office to file applications because they fear contact with government agencies that could report their presence to immigration authorities.

Administration officials said the change was necessary under their reading of a new law, the Deficit Reduction Act, signed by President Bush in February. The law did not mention newborns, but generally tightened documentation requirements because some lawmakers were concerned that immigrants were fraudulently claiming United States citizenship to get Medicaid.

Rampant corruption, pork-barrel politics, and PUNISHING BABIES WHO ARE US CITIZENS BY THE CONSTITUTION...God, I fucking hate Republicans and this administration.

Police to Start Inspecting Bags on Boston Subway

In addition, behavior-recognition teams will be dispatched throughout the subway and bus system as part of the program. Those officers will be authorized to search a person’s bag if they believe it is warranted.

This administration sure has moved us forward. First we killed the dead weight that was habius. Now cops in boston can search your bag "because".

DEFCON - Introversion software
Topic: Games 9:30 pm EDT, Sep 24, 2006

Remember last scene in the movie "WarGames" where the WOPR learns about the futility of war whilst the WarRoom's massive computer screens playout frightening nuclear nightmares...

DEFCON is a game that looks just like that but badass!

This game is a product of Introversion Software the makers of UPLINK... which is great because I'm already adicted to their products.

I want to see what "iran + n. korea" vs. "everyone else" looks like.

Think Progress [tag Path to 911]
Topic: Politics and Law 1:06 pm EDT, Sep  7, 2006

ABC is marketing its docudrama, The Path to 9/11, as “based on the 9/11 Commission Report.” It is defending the films multiple inaccuracies by claiming some scenes were “drawn from a variety of sources.”

Now we finally have an answer to the question:
What does it take to air a 2hr docudrama commercial free on broadcast television now a days.

The answer is lies, lies, lies.

_Path to 9/11_ is a "docudrama" whose major thesis is that 9/11 happened because President Clinton didn't prevent it. It is airing on ABC.

This is a link to the thinkprogress tag about everything related to the film. I can only cite some of the highlights:

* Scholastic is giving out materials to teachers clearly made w/ partisian politics in mind.

* At NO POINT did Fmr National Security Advisor Sandy Berger discourage going after Osama bin Ladin.

This is so very paritsan it's sick. The best part is that it will air commercial free. When's the last time you heard a broadcast network do that? (esp. concidering all the free press it's been getting on this fantasy)

Remote Buddy
Topic: Technology 11:30 pm EDT, Sep  6, 2006

The latest Macs ship with a remote control that allows you to control Front Row and a couple of Apple's applications. Beyond that, you can't do much else with it, though. Remote Buddy fundamentally changes this. It gives you control over the rest of your computer via the remote control. But not only Apple's - you can use other remote controls, too!

Okay so I have a fancy dangle new duo mac book pro. It came w/ a remote that sorta looks like a shuffle. It's neat in the sense that I can play movies full screen w/o paying for quicktime pro.

Remote Buddy makes that remote kick some serious ass. For instance. You can use the remote to advance slides in powerpoint. You can use the remote to go back and forward in firefox. You can control vlc with the remote...

OMFG the remote rocks.

Remote Buddy is in "beta" and the developers say you'll get free upgrades for all the 1.x releases if you pay the low low price of 9.99 euros (that's $12.81 in girly-man american dollars.
